F30 6 Cylinder Diesels - but no 330d?

There has been really no mention of a 6 cylinder diesel in the F30 as yet.......... but then I've come across this:

High-performance diesels will also feature 2.0-litre twin turbo versions with a 204 hp (152 kW; 207 PS) 323d, a 245 hp (183 kW; 248 PS) 325d and a 306 hp (228 kW; 310 PS) 335d 3.0-litre, inline 6 version

from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_S..._2012.E2.80.93

So we appear to have a 323d, 325d and 335d but no 330d? Typical BMW buggering around with the model numbering yet again. Also that reads to me that the only 6 cylinder is the 335d.

If this is the case, think I'd be very interested in a 335d though

I'd take that with a pinch of salt seeing as the 330d is the biggest selling 6 pot diesel car in the range

Well a 245bhp "330d" could well exist, according to the above, but its now called a 325d?

Dont forget they dropped the 330i from the 9x range.

I can sort of see where they are going, maintaining the power levels but moving that into an (in theory) more economical 2.0l 4 cyl engine. Two problems with that, firstly, economy in my 123d was about the same as my 330d and secondly, the smooth delivery of a 6 cyl is far superior. The d3 bi-turbo is a great bit of kit, but very much a car for enthusiasts rather than mainstream buyers.

The most potent 30d as seen in the F25, F10, F01, is now pushing out 258hp with 560NM and is a hell of a lot cleaner and more efficient than the 245hp one like I have, which was the most potent 30d in the E90. I doubt they would go back to this older engine.

If you are refering the the E9X 330d LCI engine - this is a newish engine and its CO2 for a E90 manual is 152 whereas the 258PS engine you refer to fitted in the new 5 series is 155 CO2's. Admitley the auto is a bit lower in the 5 series. But the 245PS engine doesnt appear to be an "unclean" engine.
I would bet the N57 258PS engine is actually the same engine as the 245PS one but actually tweaked a bit.

The older pre-LCI 231bhp engine isnt so efficient though.

Edit: yes, it is all the same engine N57: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N57

Not so...the last 231 M47's all the efficient dynamics, so were only slightly behind (1-2 mpg) the new 245 N47

They feel quite a bit different though ... more low down.
