What impact socket set would come in more handy or use more often; hex impact sockets or torx impact sockets? Chances are probably be both but just wanted to ask.

I'd say that hex heads requiring impact are much more common. If you are asking specific to the E90, I'm not sure whether the brake caliper bolts are Torx, Allen or hex but I can see those freezing over time and requiring an impact gun. |

I just took apart my entire interior. Seats, pillars, seat belts, door panels... you name it. I used a Torx screwdriver practically the entire time. A torx impact socket would have been very nice to have during the seatbelt phase...

Hex. Most of the Torx fasteners are small and don't really need an impact wrench to remove. That said, what I think is a nice setup is a compact quarter-drive air-ratchet. I use mine all the time with small-size torx sockets, but the sockets aren't really "impact"-rated sockets.
Don't buy cheap tools; they only mess up the fasteners you use them on. |

Hex impact would have come in handy when installing wheel studs. It was starting to strip the socket about half way through the job with just 16ft lbs of force. |
