ok just installed on my july 07 production e90. The only thing that works is when you reach in and open the door when its locked, the alarm goes off. The motion sensor and hood sensor do not work and the arm/disarm beeps do not work. The clown nose does blink though.

Well, I guess that confirms that newer cars are still not pre-programed for the alarm. You still need to take it in for full activation.

What I don't understand why does the computer reprogram takes so long on the BMW's...400 mins...I've heard of them taking a whole day and once in a while someone's computer module gets fried in the process...which they find out when the engine wouldn't start or won't fire up...

I know mine took all day, they got started around 11 am (3 hours after my apt.) and called me about 530pm after they closed to let me know the reprogram was a success. I can't believe a sophisticated car like a BMW cant have certain things reprogrammed and turned on/off etc... while hooked up without having to be completely reprogrammed. The reprogram erases all user settings etc.... and clears the computer out it seems.

Does anyone know if the price for the alarm is cheaper for the convertible since there is no ultrasonic module to install? If I'm wrong about the ultrasonic module, where would it be install since there is no overhead ceiling light? Also has anyone had the alarm installed by the dealer or themselves?

Yes... exactly the same as the DIY posted for the e90. Paid something like $150 for the parts. Fitting two about an hour. My local SA performed the activation for free (was having a fuel pump replaced).

There is no ultrasonic detector on the retrofit. The sensors, normally in the doors, are absent.

Installed this weekend

Thanks of the instructions they really helped. I have a July07 e90 and the installation was easy. I have not had it reprogrammed but most things appear to work.

Clown nose blinks, fast for 20 sec then slow
Ultrasonic sensor works, pass hand thought open window sets off alarm
Hood switch works

Does not beep when armed which is OK since I would turn off that annoying sound anyways. The door locks are loud enough to know that the doors are locked.

Question, am I missing any other functionality (besides arming chirp) by not having it reprogrammed? I did not test the tilt sensor so I do not know if that works. I might just wait until it gets a warrantied software update, even if it's at least a year. Any down side to that?
Thanks

Are you sure that your hood sensor works....it shouldn't. Besides the arm /disarm "chirp" sounds you are not misssing anything......

I think there is like a 30 sec gap by the time the sensor gets activated..... Have her sit still in the car for about 30 secs adn then start moving.... the alarm will go off

2 min wait for sensor

The official BMW installation instructions say it can take up to 2 minutes for the ultrasonic sensor to "recognize the interior parameters". BMW recommends testing the sensor by opening the windows, activate the alarm, wait 2 minutes then reach in threw the open window to test the sensor.
Good luck

yea, i waited about a minute... and nothing.
thanks for the info though - i know what to test out in the near future now.

As for the "PANIC" button... some claim that holding the open trunk button will activate the panic siren... i tried holding it for 10 seconds or so, and no panic siren... any advice on this?

Here is my report on an installation on my E90 2008 328xi:

1) Did not disconnect the batteries.

2) I did the installation backwards starting with the horn on the wheels. Did not remove the wheel since there was enough space to work with. I did use my homemade ramp to raise the rear wheel to get better workspace underneath. The hardest part for me is removing the wheel cover since I did not remove the wheel. Also, I initially thought that the horn and car's wiring harness did not match. There is a plastic adapter on the car's wiring of sort that I just snap out and exposed the perfectly fitted plug for the siren/horn. Whew! I thought I have to call Tischer's (bought the Alarm from them) and complain about compatibility.

3) The alarm module inside the car was a breeze to install. Just open the overhead cover and plug it in.

4) The hood switch was also a breeze. The newer E90s engine compartment alarm wiring is already laid out, all you need to do is install the hood switch bracket and actual switch then just plug the connector (also comes with the plastic adapter that I snapped out). No need to remove the reservoir.

Tests:
-Clown nose blinks right away on arming.
-Interior motion sensor also worked - this set the alarm off
-I haven't tested the hood yet.
No chirp yet - (this is the feature I wanted the most for audible lock confirmation!)

I called my dealer for a programming and quoted me around $80! They won't commit to actual cost since they are saying that programming might take longer. Duh? I don't have iDrive, no nav, no premium package and non of the other options - I wanted the car for its performance. I'm bringing it to them in the next few days for the activation. I'll post the result after once it is activated.

BTW, I love this DIY post. I wouldn’t have attempted the installation without this post. Hopefully everything works out fine after the activation.
