Start Up Noise

Hey Guys, so I have a lexus GS450h that is about to get its engine replaced. We noticed a loud ticking noise and long story short it turns out loose metal was flying around inside the engine and the engine bearings deteriorated.

So I started listening to my N54 e92 more closely and it also has a ticking noise and sounds like its coming from the engine bay. I thought it was a timing belt or something but then realized our cars have timing chains. And at start up the car makes a wierd shriek noise for less than a second and goes away.

Any ideas? Should I be worried? I drive about 50-75miles a day so i need my car to be reliable, hence I have waited so long to do a chip. I finally bought one (still havent installed) but now the car is making noises.

Help?

It is cold outside. Lots of strange noises at startup.

Do you recall if it made noises when we had those two "hot" days either this past week or the week before?

When the engine warmed up, all the noises disappeared (at least, for my ride)...except the occasional twitter sounds (like chipmunks) from the fan...

I have COBB...

Probably your injectors or wastegates. I wouldn't worry as long as they quiet down after initial start up. You will still hear it though.

N54s are full of ticking noises...far bigger fish to fry IMO. Youre' OK.

The shreek noise on startup is usually a sign of a failing alternator or starter. Depends if its coming from front or back of the engine.

I dont remember if it made the shrieking noises on the two "hot" days but the ticking noise has been around

I cant really tell where its coming from, sort of sounds like its coming from the back. Do you know if bmw would cover it? I dont have a warranty
