N53 325i Convertible Fuel Consumption

Just wondering if my fuel consumption would be considered normal. I have an 18 mile motorway commute each way and do some town driving at the weekend - I see just under 20mpg. 310/320 miles to a full tank.

I’m not the most economical driver, generally doing a steady 80mph on the motorway, but I’m sure I should be seeing more than 20mpg! I know that the E93 is a heavy car and I've given the injector cleaner route a go (as well as cataclean), which made no difference.

Is there something wrong, or is this about right?

63l tank, 320 miles per tank = 23mpg.

Not particularly bad. I'd assume you have a gallon left in the tank too when you fill up, making that 25mpg.

Take your mileage manually and record your fill ups (only do full tanks) You'll be able to work out your real consumption. Could just be that your computer is miles off.

Stop driving at 80 too and drop to 60. You'll save a tonne of fuel. Air resistance at 80 is almost double what it is at 60.

325i n52 engine and I get 270 to a tank. Says on the computer 23.5 mpg give or take. Thats with town driving as I rarely do motorway runs and a slight lead foot. I would have thought the n53 would give a much better mpg than that.

I've done this and it really does make a difference. Problem is after 10 minutes I get bored and embarrassed that a Honda Jazz over took me and then I'm off at 80 again.

20 mpg sounds wrong. My N53 (3.0) never drops below the low 30s and touches 40 on a run. On M'way trips I can get over 500 miles from a tank.

I have the N53 coupe and see about 27/28 so with the convertible being heavier it doesn't sound too unreasonable.

Phil do you drive at 55mph everywhere?

Based on my real world calcs, I reckon I get around 22 mpg (...showing 19.6 mpg on the screen). I just drove home at 60mph all the way and got 29mpg on the screen. Why would somebody easily get 30mpg while I get 20 odd?...making allowances for the fact that mine is an auto and a convertible, I still have to drive like a granny to get anywhere near 30mpg.

And why on earth is my mpg even comparable to an m3?!!!

22 is about right. Having owned a 320i 325i & current 335i in my experience there really isnt any difference in consumption if yr cruising around

I suppose that poses the question of why BMW even made the 325i?

The 320 I can understand as a low end model...insurance friendly for some.

330 - better performance than the 325 with same economy.

325i...

No chance! Why buy a BMW and drive like a snail? 75mph cruise on M'ways (officer). I know the N53 engine gets some flack, but with DI and piezo injectors it is very efficient, especially at small throttle openings, when it runs a stratified lean mixture.

Mine will do in the summer 32-36 on a run and that includes giving it a blast now and then. My mpg around town, country roads and traffic jams is sitting at 26 atm but in the summer it will raise to 28-30.

The only time Iv managed to get below 20 is when I drive it like I stole it lol but you can't do that for very long, its a bit dangerous.
