Probably cause when it fails you could be in the middle of nowhere. Or in the middle of a busy freeway or maybe waiting in the McDonald's drive thru or even just a few blocks from your house. Really, none are very appealing scenarios to be in.

After reading through this thread, think I am going to get that AMA membership when I get home.

I can attest to this, Mine failed on Saturday night on my way to pick someone up. Being stranded on the road for 2+ hours in cold temperatures was not something I ever want to do a again. And AAA is the best investment I've ever made. lol

I just signed up for AMA (AAA). Hope I didn't jinx myself. Only 42,000 kilometers.

Alberta Motor Association. Basically the equivalent of bmw roadside assistance for those of us with no warranty.

My water pump failed last night. Symptoms were radiator fan running full blast and no turbo power. When pushing the car the overheat light would go on. Water pump code read with the JB4. Got new pump and new thermostat tonight, mounted in 2.5hrs. Everything back to normal.

I replaced my waterpump a thermostat yesterday, install took about 2 hours....for anyone struggling, take out the radiator fan I could get to all of the bolts no problemo, aside from a few drips of coolant to the face it was a pretty easy job to say the least

Sounds like I'm a lot "luckier" than you guys.

I have an 05/07 production date for my N54, E90. Currently at 66K miles and no issues yet... knock on wood.

Debating whether or not to do preventative maintenance and replace waterpump and thermostat now, before I go to the track. I'm seriously considering it because of the fact that I'm going to be doing a coolant flush and putting some expensive Motul Mocool additive in there and I don't want to have to do this twice. Any thoughts?
