I went for 15% and costed $150. It also depends on what colour your interior is, I have beige interior and 15% is quite reasonable (looks pretty standard)

Not sure how tint can be ricey? Unless you're getting multi coloured fluro?

Darkness is completely personal preference.

Just a heads up before you get it done.. Do a search for "Tint Scratch".

I found out the hard way (although got it replaced free of charge) and scratched the tint on each door.

The E90's (and assuming 92's etc) have a hard plastic gutter (for water??) just below the felt on the inside of the door skin. The smallest piece of dirt will leave you with scratches everywhere.

You'll find in your searching "Moleskins" which are stick-on felt pieces to suit (or make your own). They seem to do the trick.

I went 35% (darkest legal in ACT), although wish I went darker..

This is the biggest PITA!!!

It's called 'Dot Matrix' and it is extremely evident on the rear window upper section!!

I don't think it's actually called Dot Matrix, that's just been slang assigned to it as the dots represent the old Dot Matrix screens used in Gameboys lol.

35% tint is the darkest legal for most states. It's weak. Pretty much useless.

25% is an acceptable darkness.

15% is good.

Should be between $180 and $250.

If you have a black interior I'd say go 35%.

I have a lemon interior and mines 20% but looks like 35% because of the light interior.

I have had several cars tinted with 35%. 3 different products from 3 different companies. 35% isn't too pale imo. If you car has a dark interior it tends to look pretty dark anyway. Darker tint can reduce vision at night. That shouldn't really be an issue with 35% tint, although the auto dimming rear vision mirror can be for some people.

$180 doesnt matter about the %
The trim piece does cause the problem but many profesionall tinters remove them.. You have the extra felt peice anyway which does the job.
On the newer they are only felt nad no rubber so no problem there

The tinting on the E92 I just picked up is kinda dodgy in this area, will a retint come out OK, or do most tints 'sag' and lose their bond to the dot matrix section of the rear glass after a period of time?

Hi Guys,

Just pulling out an old thread didn't want to start again.

Just wondering what happens if you went with 25% i know it's illegal but is it obvious to cops? can you see at night while driving?

Lastly, How much the cost to do a golf, a mini and a skoda? I need to do 3 cars. Is there a brand that y'all recommend in sydney??

Hey Troy,

I went 20% on my 335 and on the new 63, I had the tint guy fit 35% on my wifes car but its rather weak and doesnt block much, the 20% is still easy to see out at night. if you want his contact details he will supply and install for $150.
