Drills 335i build

Hi Guys
Really enjoyed reading other peoples about their builds so I thought Id start a new thread to document my build. Is likely to be a slow burn as I plan to work at it over the next 12 months or so as $$ permit but will provide regular updates and pics

Chapter 1 - Blank canvas
Was looking to rid myself of my Porsche boxster which was getting on in Ks and starting to cost lots to keep going. Wasn't too sure what I wanted but was always keen on forced induction but never owned one. So the research began...

Started by trawling carsales.com and checking out a whole range of rides including some old supras, a 2009 Audi A6, a Toyota Soarer and a VW Amarok (eeek)... Decided none of these cars were for me (apologies if you own or have ever owned one...im sure they're great)....

Finally discovered that BMW make a turbo model (always thought BM steered clear of forced induction) when I came across a article on the 135i, then i discovered the N54 engine and that it was also used in the 135i, 353i and 535is
The shortlist had begun

After much consideration (and 2 beers later) I decided on the 335i... why? because the 135i sounded like a rocket but I wanted something not sooo umm compact. The 535i sounded great but I figured was probably pretty heavy with all that leather and luxury it was packed full of... so I guessed the 335i was the sweet spot in the range.

Next stop a trawl through the usual online car sales sites.... only three cars available in Melb so with nothing else to do on a sunny Saturday after I took off to see if Id found the perfect ride....

First stop was a dealer in south Melb, he did in fact have a beautiful black 4 door 335i and a conv 135i along with some mercs, audis and the usual line up.... the 135i was a little snug, the 335i was nice but he lost me when he pointed out the rims on the car would cost another $3K and he shorted me on the trade in.... his parting words as I walked out of the show room was " let us know what we have to do to win your business" - Yeh right

Next stop a dealer with a showroom that looked like it doubled as mechanic workshop during the week... guys was dressed in trackies, spent most of his time texting on his phone and showed me a 07 335i coupe that had gravel rash from front to back.... spent all of about 10 mins before moving on

3rd and final stop at a dealership called AVL in Port Melb... two 335is in stock, a gold conv and a space gray coupe.... a quick test drive round the block in the coupe and fell in love .... 10 mins later put down deposit and had to explain to the guy that I left the keys in the ignition because I couldn't work out how to remove them (face palm)

First pic to my missus with a message saying "just brought a car" she was not impressed I had not checked in with her first

Chapter 2 - New arrival
Had to wait a couple of days for the usual rego transfers etc was was pretty pumped when the day arrived to collect my new ride.... said goodbye to the porsche (was sad to see it go) handed over the keys.... lots of paperwork later got the keys to the new ride and proceeded to drive home in peak hour traffic at 20 kmh trying to work out how to operate the bloody blinkers which didn't want to seem to switch off no matter how many times you pressed the handle (didn't know at the time that a tap is all that is needed)

Pics after getting car home, wash and polish

Big thanks to everyone here on the forum for all the information and suggestions especially Dr Jekyl who put up with all my noobie questions and gave me some great advice..... first of all the car was running super sluggy, not at all as described in the forums..... Tried the gas pedal reset thing but no change.... wasnt until I found another thread that said you had to push the start button when you release the throttle at the 30 sec mark and leave the key in for 2 mins without turning off the car, that I realised I might be doing something wrong... ran outside in the middle of the night and gave it a go.... quick trip around the block and holy S... car pulls like a crazy.... finally I knew I made the right choice (massive big grin)

This is what I did...

1. Insert key and press start button without foot on brake
2. Press gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold there for 30 seconds
3. Without releasing the gas pedal press the start button
4. Release gas pedal and without touching anything wait 2 mins
5. Press brake and start button to start the car
6. Go for a drive and see if it has made a difference

Resets the driving style your car has learned to default
I used my iphone to time the 30 seconds and 2 mins
Worked a treat for me, but the car was pretty sluggish to start with
