Slow iDrive

For some reason my iDrive is always slow, it freezes often. It takes a long time to start up occasionally as well. Is this normal?

On some of the older software it's slow. Do you know when your car was last updated by the dealership?

Historically, the original CCC iDrive's were quite slow but newer software was made this a little better. However, it'll never be as fast as the CIC based iDrives for many reasons.

No idea when it was last updated, how much does that usually cost and will that affect my ability to code my car? Will I just have to update my daten files?

Stop by your dealer and ask for a key printout. It'll have you ISTA/P level on it. Or if you have coding tools read the I-Level from the car.

I can tell you if there's an update based on that.

What ever happened with the update?

I too have been noticing my iDrive is slow (2008). The thing I notice the most is the inability to change the radio station for the first few minutes while everything loads up. I've even had an issue where I couldn't adjust the volume while the iDrive loads. I've noticed it's worse in the winter time. Also, in the winter time I usually pull the Nav disc because it takes forever to load and the laser seems to always be "searching" when the car is cold. In the summer time I notice all these issues a lot less.
