Muffler Delete Engine issues
So if I wasn't balling on a budget I'd go full exhaust, BUT to be honest I think I like the sound of the muffler delete better than any exhaust out and I'll save myself about a G....
That being said I've read all about people bitching about drone and I don't care really at all, what I do care about is what affect it could have on my engine. I am out of warranty, car is an 08 with 81,--- miles. Will the delete set off any dash lights or have any affect on my engine / turbos negatively? (I plan on doing the delete from the resonator back) Thanks |

It won't damage the engine or set off any malfunction lights. That said, it will sound stupid and people will think your car is in need of repair.

Never and I mean never buy a n54 without owning some kind of warranty on it. I would suggest the same for n55 or really any damn BMW. Love hate kinda relationship with these cars. Lol. |

Just as you are advising the OP that he can't "afford" his BMW if he can't shell out $1000 for an exhaust, there are those that would say you can't "afford" yours because you advise to never own one out of warranty. All that comes down to perspective and priorities. Let's keep this thread focused on facts, mainly that removing the muffler from a late model BMW is childish and completely not in keeping with the character of the car. I know e90s are getting cheap now, even the N55s, sadly, but it still is not a $2000 Civic.

Maybe post this is the N54 section.
It won't harm anything, as there's nothing to be damaged back there. Apart from all the naysayers - I come in peace. I've the mod on my N55, and love it. I used the remaining money that I would have spent on a catback, to purchase KW V3's. |

I agree with you on the modding exhaust thing but realistically the sound and marginal perf gain is almost identical. I worry about the life of the welds and compromising a well built oem muffler. Typical Bs muffler shops can't do that type of internal baffle mod and tight-quarter welding to produce something that will hold up, but a decent BMW shop familiar with the mod may be able to a bit better. Either way the life of the weld work and compromising the canister are an issue IMO. I also agree removing the muffler and putting on some Cyba tips is pretty ghetto or childish is say and yes that particular sound is terrible. |

Exhaust mod at a reputable shop, costs roughly $300. If somehow the welds fail - being a reputable shop, they should fix it at no charge. If the sound ends up not being to your preference, you could likely sell it for the same price you paid. Experimenting is fun

Regarding my previous posts:
I just realized that this thread is for a complete muffler delete. I actually cannot speak to this at all, as I only modded the muffler internals. So...I guess that most of what I said was irrelevant |
