I have the older version "DVD MAP" And i want to know how far can i go with this screen.

Can i completely change it all ? Add in a hard drive? Different software?

Ive been readin a few threads havent had a ton of time. Maybe someone whos had a bit more time with this can give me a hand.

I want to make it play dvd's, And i would like to install a hard drive for music/movies/the map files.

If you can link me any "DIY" that i havent found that would be great.

There's no modifications you can do the system, it's a fixed/embedded platform.

To do what you want, you'll want to retrofit the CIC navigation system to replace the CCC navigation system you currently have.

CIC can plays DVDs and has a hard drive for map and music storage.

If you want a package pricing for the whole retrofit of the CIC navigation system. Check with BimmerRetrofit or BimmerTech, both are vendors on this board.

You can also, add a multimedia unit to the system and add reverse cam. With the additional av inputs, I've added ipod video playback through the screen as well. It's pretty nice for long trips....if you can get over the stress that at any moment, your car would die for one reason or another. N54 problems.

If you are willing and patient enough to DIY you can do it for a decent price. If you are scared, then I second Andrew's suggestions..... There are a few threads on here that covers doing it and it should be easier for you since you are just basically interchanging units and adding few wires.

Im an aviation electrician ha ha, So doing minor electrical on my car is no big deal. What are the connections in the back? Aux? RCA? etc?

It's not hard if you get the plug and play harness. You just have to move the one of the optic cables over to the harness and then it's pretty much plug and play
