iPod adaptor upgrade?!

I have a 2007 e92 335i. I have iDrive and the iPod interface or adaptor but it doesnt charge my iPhone 4. I believe its the older model one and not the new iPod 6FL option. My car is still under the 50k warranty any chance I can get them to swap it out for free? Or am i asking for too much?

I just want to be able to charge my phone and play music from it.

You need a 12V charger adapter. Several companies make them these days, but this one seems to come up a lot

I have the exact model of adapter in the above link to Amazon.
Personally i'd try a different brand. After a month or so of use one of the connections has come loose. Result is - Plug into the adapter & ipod/iphone charges fine but the sound is crap and usually only from the right hand side and it will come lose and stop the connection over bumps in the road. But it does charge without issue.

Basically after a month or two I now have a wired in ipod adapter that plays music just fine but doesn't charge and a charger adapter that when I use it does't play music very well.

It's a solution but not as good of one as I'd hoped.
Cheers
V

So i cant just get a replacement iPod cord from BMW that will enable charging?
I was told by someone that this should enable the charging for the new new USB based Apple products... (iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4, iPod touch)

BMW part # 61 12 0 440 812

can anyone confirm?

That's a Y-cable for 6FL. I thought you said you had the old adapter?

I do have the old one (not a y). Right now it plays my music but it wont charge my iphone 4. I was told that the y-cable for 6FL will charge my iphone 4. I wont to verify its actually true before i order one.

If you don't have 6FL, there's no place to plug in that cable you're looking at.

Try a scosche (spelling?) adapter, changes the pin on the dock connector to charge newer phones/ipods (around introduction of original Iphone, apple changed the pinning)

The resolution is the same as it has been all along. You need either a charging adapter such as the Scosche passPORT http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPO.../dp/B001HN6CVA or an updated (from within the past year) BMW Y-cable. The iPhone 4 and newer iPod Touch devices charge via different pins in the devices' dock ports, and need either a different cable or an adapter to supply the proper voltage to those pins. The car can supply the voltage, it just needs a different cable (or an adapter on the existing cable) to do it.
