Front suspension piece dont know the name
hi,
I was at my buddy place today who is a mechanic.. to adjust my suspension.. after we were done with the suspension.. we went for a drive. but he drove.. during the drive.. he said my brakes felt funny.. so he said get out of car and watch to see if the the wheel shakes when he brakes.. he started to roll and then pumped the brakes.. and sure enough I could see the wheel shake..? he's not as familiar with BMW part names.. but he gave me a few names for the part that he said needs to be replaced.. as its a differen name for different cars.. Compression Arm, Lower Table or Trailing Arm.. he said its one of those. I looked it up at ECS Tuning.. but could find this part.. would anyone know which part he is referring to..? |

thanks..! much appreciated..
so if I understand the current bushings on the car are warn out.. so thats why the rim/wheel shakes, under pumping the brakes..? Personally I did not notice anything wrong with braking.. and to me all was perfect.. no noises, shaking, vibrations nothing.. but when my buddy was driving he noticed it right away..? and I saw the wheel physically shake when he pumped the brakes so each side needs a set of two..? or is it one per side.? the link you gave shows $67 for a set of two.. thats not bad at all. the way my buddy described it, is that the whole arm would need to be replaced.. at like $200 per arm..? I would have never known.. if he didnt notice this..? |

Those bushings are pressed in and can be replaced once. However, if the ball joint end is worn, then the entire arm should be replaced.
Thrust rod bushings essentially keep your front wheels from ripping off during braking and acceleration. Worn out bushings exhibit anything from a sudden movement in your steering wheel when braking sharply to clunking under braking and acceleration. Usually many drivers will not notice due to the gradual degradation of the rubber bushing. |

Hi there, my apologies, i thought you had a non xdrive vehicle. However you do have xdrive. So all you need is the bushings to be replaced. The ball joint is attached to the knuckle assembly.
however here is the pic of the entire assembly in case you do need do ever replace them. http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-...92-31126768983 |

Again I am sorry. We have steel tension arms. While the non-xdrive have aluminum arms. You have to replace the aluminum arms after one replacement due to work stressing the metal when pressing out the bushing.

Hi, not trying to thread jack, but the bushings are worn out on my 2007 335xi as well. I was planning on just doing the thrust arms and lower control arms as a preventive measure while I'm down there (Maine roads are terrible).
My questions are A) Are there any upgrades available that will fit my xi? I've searched a bunch and it seems all the upgrades are m3 based and only fit the 335i. If not B)Should I replace just the bushings, or the upper and lower arms on both sides? I'm doing it myself so labor cost is $0. |

Hi there, Unless the ball joints or bushings are worn out, then I would just suggest replacing the big tension arm bushings. However, replacing other components is never a bad thing, expensive, but never a bad thing. The tension arms are basically the punching bag of the front suspension.

Anyone have a drawing of where these tension arms are located? I know the control arms, but I am trying to figure out the tension arms. I think I saw a drawing a while back where they called them "torsion bars"? Is that the same as tension arms?
I am experiencing a bumpy ride in my '11 335xdrive and some vibrations in the steering and I am trying to figure out what is wrong. Also the car "pulls" every time I go over bumps and have to constantly correct the steering. It wasn't like that a couple of months ago. It just gradually got worse and now I have to keep both hands on the wheel and constantly fight the car to stay in the lane. Useless dealer says nothing is wrong because they don't want to fix anything under warranty, or they have incompetent people looking at my car. Thanks, Harry
