European air intake mod.

Okay, I just finished installing the euro air box into my car. So far, it seems to make the car rev easier and harder. Here are some pics of the install.

Welcome to the EABox club!

Have you ever felt you motor pull so hard and for so long?

This thing begs to be revved. I actually hit the rev limiter because I wasn't used to it revving that hard. At 5k-7k it just keeps on pulling, before it felt like it was running out of umph. It also pulls great low down. It seems to cruise better at sub-2k than it did before.

I am so !!

significantly, as it provides smoother and increased airflow with much less heatsoak

If you don't mind sharing what did this cost?
I have a semi heat shielded short ram intake, but now that I got the exhaust, I don't really need the extra intake sound

I like the euro box better because unlike the "Injen" and other intakes, the filter element is enclosed and shielded from the rest of the engine bay. i.e. It is getting the coldest air possible from the front of the car. With these other systems, IMO, there seems to be a possibility that heat from the rest of the engine bay could "leak" into the intake.

If you take a look at my pictures, you will see that there is no possible way for heat from the engine bay to foul up the cold air. Just my .02.

I have no experience with these other intakes, but the euro intake seems like the best bang for the buck.

AND ITS OEM!!!! BMW can't say nothin' about it because it is an oe part. Take that warranty!!

Btw, this thing pulls way harder than it ever did before. You'll find yourself hitting the rev limiter before you know it.

I don't remember exactly, my dad got it for me. I'll ask him tomorrow. From what I remember, it costs about the same as the aftermarket ones (say $500ish).

Btw, my car has the BMW Performance exhaust.

Did you install it with the BMW filter or an aftermarket like K&N? ECS sells the EBox for like $360.00.

As to heat soak, I did heat soak mine but only because it sat in the sun for a while after some spirited driving .. and noticed some performance lagging after getting back into it. I did find that after I installed some scoops I no long experience it .. just another reason to install them.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I did put in the K&N filter element (flows better that BMW paper one) and I also have the little air scoops.

Yeah, it does pretty well. I'm just waiting for my extended warranty to expire so that I can put Gavin's (Craven328i) supercharger kit on it.

Can I ask where that you got your EAbox? I can't find this anywhere on the web. Is this about the same concept as the BMW PI just not CF?

Thanks for the link. Don't know why I didn't look there before. Thats who I always used for my VW.

Still wondering if this is the same deal as the BMW PI?

No it's not, but there is a Euro version of the PI for Euro Air Box. These two combined would be interesting ...

will the US K&N drop ins work on these? or do you have to order a special K&N cone filter?

No, the factory style drop in filters do not work - it's an entirely different design.

You need K&N #E-2022 which is a cone filter specifically designed for the Euro box. Can be found online for around $50 shipped...

Depends on which version you buy. They have one that includes the box & lid - and one that includes box, lid, & filter
