Tons of good info coming into this thread... So to sum up what I have what I have taken in from this thread...

Anyone care to say 1. whether the MS8 will be good enough to power the Rainbow door / center for a lil bit until I add an amp, and 2. Will the Rainbox x-overs fit in the door? Cause if they dont it introduces another level of complexity.

I think an MS-8 system with those DLS could be phenomenal. I wish I could have tried it a few grand ago. See my post immediately above for why.

Sure...if you plan to add an amp in the future, be sure to plan on amping your center. The Rainbow SL100 is only rated to 30w RMS so keep that in mind.

Sorry but I don't know...all I know is every time this issue comes up, It makes me happy with what was once a random decision to put them in the trunk!

So do I ugh so many decisions..... Just wish the DLS would bolt in vs the dynamat but TECHNIC seems very very confident and I trust him that the Dynamat works perfect.. ( his installs highly impress me ).

Hmm maybe ill just do the DLS, Save the rings for down the road with a 2nd round of upgrades one day.

Sorry to be all over the place guys.. You know how the " WHILE WERE IN THERE" Gets the best of us and a $1000 project turns into a $3000 one.

You are 37 minutes from one of the best installers on this forum...Perhaps give him a crack to do something other than dynamat.

yes, really. I've been professionally installing, designing, creating, building and selling car audio for more than 22 years. 90% of crossover failures are due to excessive vibration from putting the XO in the door. 5% would be from moisture damage due to having them in the door. The other 5% would be from excessive power to the XO and blowing capacitors.

the best way to have a kick-ass system, for the least amount of money, is to do it right the first time, and not have to spend more later to replace parts, or fix shoddy work. I try to mount the XO in as safe a place as possible, as far from electronics as possible. This means away from computers, and D-class amplifiers. The safest place might be under the front seats, or against the firewall on the driver side, since the blower fan can radiate AC waves that can be picked up by the inductors in the XO.

Its 6spdcoupe. Not 6spcoupe. Typo

Bottom line is that the dls could be done with a top mount by a good installer.

Edit. Here is his top-mount work

This is the whole purpose of this thread to do it right and do it once.. Ive been reading the Audio Stickies, and have read through almost every build thread on here to figure out and take in as much as I can..

Last night the dynamatt method was bothering me so I bought the CNC rings and said I wont use the DLS then went back to using the DLS etc

Just want some good as SQ and nice bass.. I have around a 2k budget with sub and sub amp ( not adding them till later )

So figure 1200 or so for front components / center / MS8 / Harness etc.

Already bought DLS R4 / MS8 / Technic harness / CNC rings / Vibe Slick Center / just waiting to start install and now debating on using the DLS or opting for a full rainbow front setup and selling my DLS and Vibe Slick ( only due to mounting ).. But technic knows his stuff and Ill also wanna contact the 6speedcoupe guy as well.

Id just really like to know why technic is not recommending the dls 424 in place of the vibe. Maybe there is something i dont know.

Heres why you need someone good for the top mount:

DLS are damned good speakers, but I prefer my front stage to match. All my mids would be the same make, line, and batch, then tweeters would be the same make, line, and batch, even if the tweeters and mids are different brands or lines. It's a personal preference, not a necessity.
Talk with 6spdcoupe about getting Rainbow. You may be surprised at how affordable they can be. Don really knows his stuff. Since he's so close to you he may just meet with you to demo the speakers. He's the hardest working man in car audio in the Northeast.

This is some of the best news I have gotten so far, If I can hear something I will be more inclined to push for it.

I am the same way and agree At home my Klipsch Home Theater matchines across the front stage and all
the big HT heads said the same thing you want the woof and tweets from the same family across the board.

I will def contact him...

What are your feelings on the narrow power band (rms) of the SL100 vs the comparatively larger band of the 424

I agree 100%. I love my matched rainbows but i was afraid of frying the coax before i deleted the crossover (and moved it outboard).

For this reason i think a matched DLS reference set (component+coax) might be better than rainbow of the same vintage. That being said, perhaps don could do a component center with a braxial mount which he recommended to me and i prematurely discarded.

power means very little when we're talking such small numbers. 50rms-90rms will sound very similar, and will come down to efficiency, and installation. you'll have to move up to big-boy numbers to really notice the power difference (like 150rms, and up). But really, it all boils down to installation, and quality.

To achieve YOUR goals I would need to know the type of music you normally like, and how yo normally listen to it. Do you listen to hardcore gangster rap at high volume? Jazz at high volume. talk radio? Punk? Industrial? Do you want the neighbors to know you're coming home from work before you reach your zip code, or is this just for you? SO many factors come into play with car audio, it would be obtuse to answer that question without more info.
