Xdrive Two types of OEM DIFF fluid, but which one?
I know i can use Redline / royal purple and other 75w-90 oil. But I would like to stick with OEM oil.
According to Realoem, Part # 83222365987: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=31_0718 Went to grab a bottle of diff oil from the dealer, Part # 83222365987 Synthetik It costs $56... Why is it so expensive? But ECS only sell this OEM diff oil, Part # 07512293972 It is way cheaper. What's the different between the two? (I cannot find this oil on realoem) https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/07512293972/ Last edited by Blueeyesredpanda; 11-21-2017 at 05:00 PM.. |

I know right. Don't understand why there are two versions of transmission oil and diff oil.
Trans oil is easy to understand, one for US and the other one for non US. But the diff oil is seriously confusing. |

If it makes you feel better, ECS indicates that 07512293972 supersedes 33117695240 which realoem indicates was superseded by 83222365987.

So the difference here is that 07512293972 is sold as final drive fluid for BMW motorcycles. It's the same as the differential fluid - they're both Castrol SAF-XO. But this part number is sold at motorcycle dealerships cheaply, the other one is sold at car dealerships for way more. ECS sells this one because it's way cheaper. Only difference is the label.

This might be a region difference but over here in Australia the OSP 75W90 83222365987 replaced the SAF-XO.
SAF-XO was renamed and is now sold in the Syntrax line of products. It is the 75w90 final drive oil used in most E series cars without LSD. Castrol SAF-XJ is a 75w140 oil for F series LSD such as F80. However, when sourced through a dealership here you will get Synthetik MSP/A 75w140. All oils are amongst the list of approved lubricants for the applications stated above but always consult your dealership for the latest specified fluids. It even confuses us sometimes because of the way the document is written, region/market specific considerations, etc. Just a bit of trivia: The F series non LSD rear final drives specify a different fluid altogether. I believe the changeover happened recently as we've only stocked 75w90 and 75w140 until now. |
