New Audi A4 Invitation at Sydney

Hi Guys,

Anyone receive Invitation from AUDI ? I never sign up with audi, and they sent me catalogue last week, and today i got invitation for its event on 2nd-4th may 2008 at Alto Audi Artarmon or Pennant Hills.
I bought BMW at Alto BMW Artarmon, and how on earth AUDI can send any invitation to me?

Because you are a client of Alto's, so they have all your information from their BMW selling days and now want to sell you an Audi. What's the big deal?

True, but it's really just a Lamborghini Gallardo in a different shell, either way (oh it pains me to say it, but) i guess they're all just glorified VW's these days.

Glorified VW's Thats pretty harsh. The R8 is sex and if it's a Gallardo in a different shell then that's OK with me

Harsh? Well it's the truth, given they're the ones running the show over there these days. It's an unfortunate world we live in, when the likes of Bugatti and Lamborghini are being run out of VW....

.... and on the subject of the new Audi A4, I happened to be driving back from the city and dropped in at Audi to see if the new A4 was there and sure enough the salesmam took me to see one in the preparation area. IMO - Outside is a bit boring and very censervative but the rear looked good but inside it leaves the current 3 series looking very outdated. Lots of lovely techi bits too like electric handbrake and no need for seperate starter button as push and hold the key starts the car. Nav or no Nav you still get the LCD screen which will tell you everything. As I said, the car was in the preperation area so it still had all its wrapping. I'll go back next week to have a better look. Oh --- not running RFT and they give a space saver.

Only 3 engine models available at the moment 1.8L turbo and 3.2L petrol and 2.0L diesal. Salesman said they believe diesal will be the bigest seller. No plans to bring in a 2.0L FSI like before. They will probably leave this up their sleave in case the diesal doesn't take off.

Yes it's true but It's a bit of a double edged sword though because VW at least can provide the financial backing to Bugatti and Lamborghini and share (or write off) development cost across the platforms with shared components. I seriously doubt that both those brands could have produced the current range they have without VW backing them up. Technology cost money and money they did not have.

Maybe you are right. I only wish I had the $300K to lash out on such a car. Choice would be very hard - Hmmm ...Italian or German.

True, but 300k for the R8 compared to 425k for the Gallardo, your paying around 100k less and getting a slightly more advanced car, as the R8 has a few goodies the Gallardo doesn't as it was built more recently, hence why Lambroghini has recently bought out the Gallardo LP550, which the added goodies and then some to reposition it back above the R8. As for Italian Vs German, i guess with the VW ownership of Lambo you get the best of both worlds...

They've got a large stake, that's it, majority isn't on the menu yet.
It looks like they're trying to influence audi a lot though, given the push for seats on the supervisory committee, which is probably to try and remove some of the cross brand cannibalisation of their markets along with canning cars such as the R4 and keeping the TT's slower than the boxsters/caymans, through the touted joint development of the next generation...

That will surely make the JETTA buyers justify their purchase so they can claim some bragging rights while at the pub.

There would be no way in hell I would be picking an Audi for that money, I would be marching straight down to Lamboughini!

Seen so many R8's around that it is heard to believe they are that pricey!

I got the same invitation from alto, just threw it in the garbage where it belongs. Alto + BMW = FAIL, Alto + AUDI = BYE BYE AUDI's reputation.

On another topic i would love to go and see the new A4 and TT-S(when its released) i just don't have enough time to go to Audi at Para. There is no way im going to step foot in ALto so i guess i have to spot the new A4's on the road.

I'll be going to the new Audi Dealership at Five Dock. It looks huge, very modern and the building purposely built looks very space age.
Going for a test drive(2 hours)just for kicks in a S5 with no dealer present. Should be fun !!!

It was a 1.8T model. It was under the building still needing to get prepaired. Grey in colour. Because it wasn't well illuminated, I couldnt really get a good feel for the look of the car. I must say though that the red one at the motorshow looked impressive under the lights but I'll reserve my opionion till I I have a better look.
