You will be fine with 225/45/17 tyre and its not too narrow. Wheels are sunken in though, but its a nice looking wheel. You could always add spacers. I have 17x8 et20 front and 17x8 et10 (style 122) rear as my winter setup.

I haven't roll my fenders and 17x8 et10 with 225/45/17 doesn't rub and im lowered with HR sport.Probably something like 15-25mm spacer.

This is stock fitment on many e90. It does look narrow a bit, but nothing a 10mm spacer can't fix.

I have 225/45 winter tires on 17x8 style 185 et 34 and use 15 mm Turner hubcentric spacers in the back. It looks great considering it's a winter set. I would go 235 square w/15mm spacers in the back for summer/as tire. Easy clean fit.

No, you need 235/40 or 225/45. If it was me I would go 235. 225 is narrow in my opinion unless it's winter tires but either works.

235/45/17 is fine - I have them on My 2009 LCI with 17x8 ET34 rims non-staggered. Tires are the wide fitting Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 1 and there is still a lot of space.

How does it look on the rim? I'd imagine that tire in particular would "bulge" a bit on an 8" wheel.

235/45/17 looks like this on my E90 LCI. Pre-LCI will have more rear fender gap.

No, but even with spacers, from the rear it just looks thin. wider tires should help. you can run a wider tire no problem. try 245's

but i do plan on getting 15mm front and 20MM rear spacers, because the wheels looked "sunked".

No spacers on my car. Since your car is pre-LCI, it has a narrower rear track width so the wheels will be 8 to 10mm further sunken in than mine.
