The original finish is the best in my opinion..but it's your car. Ditch those orange reflectors while you're waiting

Agreed, but it was not looking like it did in its former glory.

Already been ditched

Not really an update, but I received my alternative centercaps arrived today (terrible bberry pic)...

Now I can decide b/n the CF and the red when the wheels finally come home.

I'll buy whatever set of the centercaps you don't want for my RGR's. I'm going to get them repainted too. Can't wait to see how yours turn out.

I'll let you know. I may actually keep them both just in case I feel like mixing it up down the road. I ordered a red cap from EAS MONTHS ago and it finally got here last Thursday. Ordered the CF from PureMS on Monday and they got here Thursday as well. I'd highly recommend PureMS if you don't wind up getting them from me.

Dropped by today. They were about to be lightly sanded before being sealed, primed & painted...

I got to see the paint, too, which had just come in. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final product. He was waiting on paint and a few misc. items which I asked him to paint to match so we are still probably 1-2 weeks out. I told him to take his time. I'd rather them cure with him for two-three weeks than cure in my garage. I won't be able to resist slapping them on.

Yessir... can't say i miss the rotary. I got one of the very first 8's off the boat, and it was a disaster. Factory recalls every 2 weeks, my seat broke... then, once i put the turbo on (greddy), it was a nightmare. Great while it lasted, and car handled like a dream (after ms shocks/struts, 4pt brace, x brace, sways, etc). But, i would never EVER go back to mazda... scarred for life from all the times I had to go into that dealer...

Thanks! Same to you!

I knew what I was getting into with the RX. Mine was a 2004 as well. I kept it for 8 years, 2 engines and still miss it. I stayed n/a though. It's tough to beat a <2900lb car on a square 275 setup handling-wise....now I just need to figure out a way to she'd 1000lb from this e90...drivetrain removal?

Seriously, though, the diesel is the best compromise I could've made. I love this thing. I went from 240hp/no torque/16mpg to 275hp/425lb-ft/31mpg...amazing (especially since I'm now driving 40k miles/yr). A buddy of mine told me I can't seem to own a normal engine "no pistons to no spark plugs".

How do you like that n54? Great engine!

Hey man, that's hilarious... why can't you get a normal motor... haha. Diesel is the way to go, if i had the option, i would go diesel right away.

2 engines... sounds about right (rx8) lol. I blew the motor a couple of months after the Greddy turbo... custom mods (turbo), custom problems. learned this the hard way. But damn, you've run 275 square ?!?! that's impressive!!!

I have the N52 motor... no turbos. When i bought my e90, the 335 wasn't out yet. Even if it was, i probably wouldn't have gotten it... the turbo issues on the rx8 really scarred me quite a bit. Now, i'm craving some more power, so I'm hopeful about picking up a diesel as my next ride (quite a few years from now lol).

The n52 is great. very solid motor. I have the e83 msport (x3) which is a beefed up n52, and it's great. This inline 6 is one of the best motors i've ever had, so I'm very happy with it. Now, if only i can up the power without force induction-ing it, without having to spend thousands of dollars... that's going to be pretty tricky. The only options i can think of are port/polish, etc -- but that'll break bank. I'm at 115k on my motor so far, and it's still running strong like a champ!!!

Yessir. 9.5 et45 on an rx8 will run 275 square with no rubbing no fender mods. I considered the greddy while I was having the first engine rebuilt. I thought about doing ceramic apex seals then doing the greddy kit with upgraded turbo, but it just felt like it was going to make the car even more of a maintenance headache; plus I had already started racking up just shy of a thousand miles a week, and the rx was not the car for the job.

That n52 is a GREAT motor. Smooth as silk and plenty of power. Not super mod friendly though (from a $/hp perspective). One thing I will say is that you will not regret going to the diesel, but longevity/maintenance-wise youll always be better off with that na i6 as compared to any other 3er on the market. With a $300 piggyback, the d will run high twelves and still get you high30s/low40s for highway mpg. Beyond that and a few true tunes, there is limited tuner support stateside, but the diesel brotherhood is working on that.

...come to the dark side, se3p...

...once you've racked up a quarter million miles on that n52, of course.

Lol. Trust me; I'm dying to see the outcome too.

Damn, that orange would look great on an AW as much as I never thought I'd say that. It'd be worth considering techray. Maybe rysandro can hook it up with that or a recommendation for a blue for you.

I think that of the lighter blues ford sonic blue was one I liked. I needed something conservative for work so I wanted a darker paint with a lot of metallic for contrast. What did you pick out as your tentative choice?

The cf grilles arrived today (I figured they would tie in nicely to the darker wheels) and were immediately installed.

Word is that I should be picking up the wheels by Saturday 4/13, but if I do I should resist putting them on for as long as possible so that the paint can fully harden (not sure I'll be able to do that once they are in my possession, though, so if I'm smart I'll ask him to store the, for 2-3 weeks. Not to worry, though...I'm not smart!

I may add spacers to the front, but why would I need them for the 10ET25 rear on an LCI?

Why not. You think thats really as flush as you can get? If that's what your going for of coarse. I would poke them out though
