Grinding sound when steering wheel is turned all the way?
Is it normal for there to be a grinding like sound when the steering wheel is turned all the way either way (until it can't turn no more and you hold it in that position). The car doesn't have to be rolling for this sound to occur. If I turn the wheel back even a smudge the sound goes away. Normal?

Normal. well, assuming it's more of a whine than a grind, correct? That's the sound of your power steering pump straining when you are at full lock. Pretty much every car I've driven with PS does this at full lock. So like you said, just back off a bit if you hear it, and you'll be fine.

I've heard it before, although I can't remember which car, the BMW or our older Durango.
