New 335iS owner: Thought I would post pics of my new car

2012 6MT 335iS - 26K miles, I'm the third owner and purchased the car about a month ago from Carmax. Developed a high RPM pulsation in power but BMW replaced all the injectors, plugs, coils, fuel pump and did a walnut blasting. Now it runs buttery smooth.

Mods installed: Clutch Stop & Golf Tee Mod, 235/265 Michelin PSS Tires
To Be Installed: Spacers, M5 Shift Knob, Clutch Delay Valve, Painted Reflectors

Welcome to the community! Luv the color combo and I see you got the stick huh? qq, how does this car compare to your 135 in terms of performance i.e. handling, straightline performance, ride quality etc...?

135i was faster, handled better (except at speeds over 100 MPH), but the ride quality was worse and the overall build quality felt very cheap in comparison to the 335is. 135i was more of a pocket rocket.

335iS is more fun (since it's a 6 speed) much more comfortable. I also love the exhaust note. Had a BMW performance exhaust on my 135i which was a bit louder but the tone on the 335iS is nicer. I intend to put an intercooler and cobb tune on this car in the near future and i'm sure that will make it very fast.

Michelin PSS is the way to go. Its funny, I ordered 12MM spacers before I added 235 PSS. I compared the 235 PSS to my 255 Runflats and wow Michelin PSS tires run very wide. They were almost the same width. Tried installing my 12mm spacers today and it was clear the shoulder of the tire would hit the front fender. Doh!

Overall I love the car. I miss my 135i though. It was fully modded (1M conversion, LSD, FBO, m3 Components, Ohlins). I intend to change the suspension / LSD on this car down the line.

135i curb weight 3,373
335is curb weight 3,571

The weight difference is enough to compensate for the additional power. Stock I put out 13.3 @ 106 in my 135i in the 1/4 Mile. Car & Driver DCT has 1/4 mile of 13.3 @ 108. Makes sense. Because of the additional power the 335is would make up for it in the top end (Hence the 108mph).

Performance modifications being equal, the 135i will always be faster than a 335i / 335iS because of the weigh differential. It's simple physics. F=MA

For how small of a car it is, 200 pounds is a negligable difference. I always thought they were a lot lighter. Two tenths of a second on the quarter mile if everything else is equal.

It's enough to make the 135i seem faster and keep up with a stock DCT 335iS.

Anyways, I love my new 335iS. I really like the 6 speed on this car as well. DCT was not for me.

I have no problem believing that the 135 felt faster, especially on a twisty road 200lbs makes a big difference.

yea im not so sure about that... I always thought the 135 would be much faster because of weight but I've been proved wrong a few times. I raced 135 with intake and tune at the track ( he had a 6mt) and I beat him both times.

The other night at a meet, I race a n54 135 stock ( 6mt as well ) and we did rolls from 20,40,60. I honestly took off him by several cars, my car is stock and I have DCT

My buddy has a stock 135i that is auto and I have the DCT. When my car was stock, I pulled on him every time in between shifts. I'd imagine it would be a little worse with a 6MT

I am thinking the weight advantage only really helps on a curvy track or mountain road. In a straight line I agree the more powerful heavier 335is will be quicker, especially with the DCT.

Same here. I usually get people off the line (without overboost or launch control) and then definitely make up for the power difference between shifts.
And, I've the extra weight of a folding roof. But, I've found that it comes in handy when I've got it all in the trunk sitting over the back wheels.

Hey guys didn't mean to start a 135 vs 335is debate (I think all of us on this forum are a tad biased anyway lol) but with that said, the information shared has been very interesting. Especially in regards to power to weight ratios and DCT shift performance. Good stuff!

Chester - thanks for sharing your experiences with both cars. You have a perspective that definitely comes from seat time in both vehicles...

M3 Suspension Upgrade...Success!!!!!

This is my addition to the many well detailed reviews on this upgrade. My car is my daily driver with around 31000 miles on the odometer. I felt that the car just never seemed planted at high speeds especially at moderate speeds in curves. I live in northern California and I drive a lot of curvy roads. It was frustrating and underwhelming that my car just didn't seem planted in the curves and though it handled ok, it just seemed sloppy at times.
I went to the dealer had my car get a wheel alignment and that still didn't inspire grinning confidence, so I did go elsewhere and go it realigned and that helped some what. After scouring the forums about the suspension, I decided to do the M3 suspension upgrade. The body roll and turn in and planted feeling that seemed always elusive are now almost non-existent.

I know that it is silly expensive upgrade for a daily driver, but I feel the transformation it does to the handling of my car was totally worth it!!!. Thank you ashmostro for the information you provided, it totally helped my decision to upgrade the front and rear control arms, sub frame bushings, (E93) M3 front sway bar and a (E92) M3 rear sway bar.

I moving forward with some bolt on mods, probably a ER F.M.I.C. charge pipe, AR downpipes and either a JB4 or Cobb Tune. I am not sure how much power I want to go so I am keeping my options open. Thanks GetBMWparts you were invaluable in my upgrade process!!!! your fast shipping and customer service is impeccable!!!

If i recall correctly,

I had purchased TRW m3 components (Front Control arms, rear guide arms, subframe bushings) along with BMW front m3 Sway bar for around 1300. Installation was probably around 1200 (I did coil overs at the same time). Subframe bushings installation itself was around 600.
