New to Bav-Tech Scanner...What should I do

Hello, I just received my new Bavarian Tech scanner. I just need to know what, if any things I should do with it other than clear codes when they are thrown. It has options to reset the ecu and reset a bunch of adaptations. Should I do any of this or just leave it alone?

I reset my tranny adaptations after I changed the fluid and filter, I would be hesitant to reset the ecu unless you are having problems.

Just plug it in every once in a while to check for codes and shadow codes... or when you have issues with the car. I usually reset the ECU when I switch maps using the AP...

Anyone else got any suggestions? I've never owned a car that I could use software like this on. I know what it all means, but I don't know if I should do it...just to do it.

if you don't have a tune, you can use it to datalog if you think your car isn't running right. That's what I used mine for haha and to clear codes and reset ecu.

Short answer is it depends on what you are doing.

The bav tool is great, but you dont "need" to use it, I havnt used mine in almost a year.

But if you need to use it, it can do many things. Therefore it depends.

IF you have a Check engine light, you can use it to read the code.

If you think the code might be a fluke, reset the codes, and see if they come back.

If you want to leave the codes so you can bring it to a dealer you can do that too.

As far as resets of adaptations they are only necessary if you are having drivability issues and think a full reset might fix the problem.

Umm...95% of folks use the tool to clear codes triggered by an agressive after market tune. You don't seem to have a tune listed in your mods, so....you bought it why?

I bought it because I want it. I don't want to have to rely on going to the dealership to get codes scanned when they arise. I have always been able to scan my own cars, but the scanner I have now doesn't read the shadow codes.
