Question Hello all! New to the forum and a few questions

Hello all, new to the forum but I have actually been a "CD-ROM" on Bimmerpost for quite a few years.

As my family have ordered the F20 118i M Sport as the second car, which IMO is quite a bargain, the E90 will be forced out of the covered parking space when the new car arrived...

Since there is no plan to replace the E90 just yet (the F30 328i M Sport is for sure tempting...), I want to make some preparations for outdoor parking. Therefore, I have come up with this little project in my mind.

1. Windows-tinting, anyone tried Wait To's FSK UV cut? Are they good? I see some of their packages come with the windshield piece, is it legal at all?

2. Carsland @ North Point, a lot of ppl recommend this place, really good? Want to try their $1,800 package and hopefully reduce the UV harm to the paint. And also the interior steam thingy...

3. Car-cover/Coat/Umbrella/Tent, whatever the name is... Have anyone tried them? I heard that the "cover/coat" type will scratch the paint if sand is blown inside the cover. But the umbrella type only cover the glass portion of the car, I want to also cover the hood and trunk at least. How about car-tee, (www.car-tee.com) anyone tried?

Okay, the rest does not necessary have to do with the sun, I admit...

4. Rims repairing/painting, have anyone tried the tires shops in Prince Edward famous for rims repairing? My set of rims are dented and I also want to paint the center portion black or gun metal or gray.

5. M-Tech kit...where to get the pre-LCI kit beside BMW HK? I heard Valiant or Deutschland but the price seems to be varied. Also where is the good place to paint and install?

Attached a picture of the car in question:

Thanks in advance!

Just something to share on point no. 3 - I'm using a half cover from car tee. The material is quite good. Apart from blocking sunlight it's good in repelling dust and water. It also has four "bones" on the top (like an umbrella) for better ventilation and for you to fold and unfold more easily. The downside for this half cover is it cannot stand very strong wind. From my observation I think it cannot sustain under typhoon signal no. 3 or above. And it's expensive, half cover for my E92 costs 1K. It may be a bit cheaper for E90 because they need to tailor-make for different models and I'm their first customer for E92.
The reason why I don't use full cover is I can't imagine how I can fold it and put it back in the trunk nicely on my own under strong wind and heavy rain.

1. our windows are already tinted. i was told by a tinting shop that u may not pass car inspection even for the one with highest translucency if tinted. if u want to stay legal u can just tint the rear windows, but that won't help much in heat insulation
2. if u're driving your car every day, i think u'd better forget about the "raincoat". when i first changed to an outdoor parking i also bought one, but gave up after a few weeks as it's just not practical! a hard work when the weather is hot. and it's like sandpaper rubbing on the paint after raining. i'd rather wash and wax my car more often
3. personally saw rims repainted by the shop in prince edward. pretty nice for the price i would say. but won't recommend if u just want to fix dented rims...

Thanks kle46 and william_cwl

.1. William so you mean the blue-ish colour of the glass is the tint?

2. I probably will not drive the car on weekdays, so probably car-tee is the way to go without tinting...

3. So any good place for repairing dented rims?

tried twice
first time: $200 fix 2 wheels. not satisfied at all as the filler fell off a couple months later and the wheel looked strange as it's not circular anymore!
second time: $300 for 1 wheel! but much much better this time. colour matched and more long lasting. no problem even after typhoon signal 10 and flooding
overall, won't recommend but can try though i think there may be better valued choices around

1. I did 35% tint all around except windscreen 85%. The job cost me $2.5K and I'm happy with the result! Planning for retrofitting gloss black shadowline later

2. For paint protection, my car parks indoor and I brought it for GLARE coating last year when it was 3 months old. However after few months time, the coating faded and the paint was not smooth and 'glare' as before. As a result, I prefer waxing my car by myself regularly rather than apply coating stuff. P.S. I'm now using Meguiars products for car detailing.

4. 鈴師傅 and 金富 seems to be the popular choice in town, but my friends and I've been fixed our rims at 偉倫 which did a decent job with a more reasonable price. Highly recommended to give it a try!
I've deal with them twice and I'm a happy customer:
- mini cooper (whole set of rims repair + sprayed in gunmetal color $1.2K for the job)
- e90 (front rim minor repair + sprayed in original silver color $250)

If possible, try to get covered parking slots for your cars.

My family's E90 and E66 were parking outdoor mostly throughout the year, it turns out rattlings around, which would cost you a lot to get them eliminated.

Btw, when did you order the 118i M Sports?

What rattling noise? Flexing noise from the window trim? Can get the sound eliminated?

I think it has to do with different materials contracting and expanding due to the temperature differences.

Rattling anywhere. Mostly on B,C pillars and door/window trim related plastic parts were hardened..

It is not easy to get them fully eliminated. We don't bother to waste money fixing them on fully depreciated cars.

You are lucky. I heard they have stopped accepting 118i/328i M Sport order temporarily.

O Really? The salesperson never mentioned anything about that, and we even called back to change the interior colour after order is placed...

Thanks again NuBeetle, I just have my rims repaired and repainted at 偉倫, I think they have done a good job for a reasonable price:

My pleasure! e90 brother
The inner part of your rims in gunmetal go nicely with the polished lips as well as your silver e90 + blackline taillights!
Ha! I also sprayed my cooper's rims from silver to gunmetal in matte finishing! See the attached pic below.
BTW, did the boss charge you 1.2K or 1.5K?
