Just had the pine tree air freshener replaced, and it was $589. I asked the dealer just wth is going on, my friend had it done for $389, and the SA said that's for a 325. This is exactly why next time I'll DIY, how hard can it be to get that little string around the rearview mirror?

I would recommend on this thread that you list Dealer Labor and Part cost as well as part costs if you find the parts online
Such as I paid $12 for the oil filter housing gasket and it took me 1 hour to change it out as part of doing the water pump since I had the water drained. I also only paid $495 for the water pump and thermostate and took me 3 hours to in labor. This will give people a good idea of the cost to do it yourself verse paying the dealer. |

Just had the 5th fuel HPFP installed in my car.
Orig 2. 23K miles 3. 53K miles 4. 71K miles 5. 90K miles (Low pressure pump replaced also). Have had multiple injectors replaced finally with HPFP #4 replaced the whole set with new style. Also had water pump replaced, and a bunch of other stuff. Looked at the total so far and BMW has spent ~$9800 on warranty repair on my car. Going out of warranty in 4 months but can get another 3 year/36K for a decent price. With my history, turbos or something will go.. Getting the extra warranty. |

I got a quote for rear brakes. Would be pads, sensors and discs. Dealer price was $898. He said he would be willing to do it for $750 out the door. Indy shop quoted me $610.

Indy isn't always cheaper. I have a buddy that just had his water pump and thermostat replaced for $1,500. About $150 higher than typical dealer price and he didn't get a loaner.

Had these quoted for me a while ago at the dealer:
Valve cover gasket only $1097 Oil filter housing gasket leaking $786 Then I had my water pump and thermostat go bad, which from what I read is between $1,100 and $1,500. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, VCG and OFHG for about $700 all in including tools I needed. Unfortunately, at the very end of the job I broke a small coolant hose that I have to take in to get fixed. Either way, I'm going to come out way ahead. On a side note, I don't understand why the oil filter housing gasket is so expensive. I have a oil cooler so it was two gaskets for $40 and wasn't very hard. That probably includes a oil change too but still, seems crazy. The valve cover gasket was much more labor intensive and more expensive parts. Last edited by tys90; 01-20-2014 at 11:58 AM.. |

I'll do all 4 wheels with Zimmerman rotors and pads for $750. Brakes on any modern BMW take more time to get it in the air and the wheels off. |

Hello
Is there anyone still on this thread? I looked up "problems with BMW 3 series" because I REALLY WANT ot buy a convertible. I can only afford to buy used. Looks like a bad idea from these posts. Anybody out there have one that has caused them no problems? Thanks! |

No costly repair work to report here.
Bought my 2010 new and drove it home on December 30, 2009. 55,700+ miles since then it hasn't had any issues whatsoever, including before and after HPFP the recall. The right fog lamp needs replacement though. Probably cost me no more than $50 for the lamp and for my trusted mechanic to replace it.

So yes, same case for 09-10s, all injectors fail and they are still revising them. I recently got index 12 and now I hear they are index 13. |

Purchased my 2011 E92 CPO with 23K miles. I've only brought it in to install PPK and M PS along with replacing all the fluids at 30K with no hick-ups and no issues. I think that your maintenance threat is how the previous owner drove the car and/or modded it before selling. "Drive it like you stole it" is fun, but there is an ultimate price to pay down the line. The previous owner(s) history of driving/maintenance really spells out the future reliability of your car. . . unless it's a BMW lemon which I haven't heard/seen of much.
