BOV discussion

Hey ok so I'm in the market for a BOV/charge pipe set. I looked to see if were a BOV thread, and unless the don't work, could not find one. This would be a good STICKY for those looking to purchase different BOV/CHARGE PIPE set ups:

Format (its simple):
1) BOV/CHARGE PIPE BRAND
2) PIC
3) VIDEO CLIP (this is probably the most important since everyone wants to hear what it sounds like.

Lets see/hear em guys/girls!!!!

Evolution Racewerks chargepipe is by far your best option

Tial BOV is the most popular for function and tame sound
HKS BOV if you want LOUD

I read somewhere on the forum that bovs on n54s are actually counterproductive.
Is this true? I dont even know what a bov does besides noise tbh.

Any advantages for a BOV setup on a stock engine? I like the sound.

It depends on the configuration of the BOV. I recommend a 50/50 valve if you are after the sound and must have some VTA on a stock engine.
The factory plastic valves leak so there is a proven performance gain when replacing them.

  • Evolution Racewerks Black Anodized Charge Pipe
  • Forge Diverter Valves (Yellow Springs for COBB Stg. 2+ Boost Levels)

Picture:
ER Charge Pipe connection to the OEM throttle body & Forge DV connection into ER Charge Pipe
**Replaced the DV Vacuum Hose b/c the OEM Hose wouldn't fit the Forge nipple

Length wise shot of the ER Charge Pipe connecting to the OEM throttle body & Helix FMIC piping

I went w/ the DV set up for for 3 reasons:
  1. DV was the manufacturers original set up
  2. I like the silent sound of the DVs, I didn't want my car to be confused as a "Fast & Furious" set piece
  3. The Forge DV's can be serviced & repaired (the springs won't last for ever and eventually will start dumping boost early). A BOV cannot be serviced and once it stops holding boost, the entire unit ($$$) needs to be repaired. A Forge DV service kit is $20

I have the STETT chargepipe n Synapse BOV setup, photos in the same section under my topic. Will try to take a video of it.

sound's not as loud as HKS, but you can hear it on the inside with windows close, and will hear a little ' 'psssst'

Does it feel like you lose power when installing a BOV vs a bypass?

No.
Op: Can't go wrong with any of the offerings. My vote goes for Tial, most proven and durable out there. Also not annoying like some of the others.

Our cars are MAP based, not MAF so there is no power loss. VTA is just noisier and you have the potential to vent methanol fumes, althought I don't think anyones ever had a problem with it. When I ran my bov, (z shift), people always asked what was wrong with my car and when I was going to get it fixed.

I even put a greddy type R on, although we don't push enough air with these little turbos to run it.

Greddy Type R at 15 PSI - It made this woosh sound or a flutter from barely being able to open the valve.

Here is the Z Shift, ignore the lights, its TPMS and Catless dp's with no fix:

Here is the z shift again. Again, the lights are from having catless dp's and I don't have my Tire pressure sensors installed:

Tial is probably the most popular, followed by Synapse. Tial is probably the quietest BOV, so if you want the Big BOV noise Tial is probably not the one for you. HKS is pretty popular in terms of sound.
