Rear Main Seal Leaking !
Went the extra step and planned on chaging out the $25 rear main seal while doing a clutch job on my 120,000 mile E90 xi......kind of glad I did once we got the flywheel off!
Highly suggest having this done during a clutch job, especially since the flywheel should come off for either resurfacing or a new lighteweight or steel flywheel replacement. The seal is right in front of you, takes like 30 minutes tops to take old out and reinstall new one. |

how was doing the clutch on these?

Not too bad. Make sure you have a torch to get off some of those seized bolts.
The shift linkage in a tough spot with the Transfer Case. Pilot bearing was stuck in the transmission shaft. Transmission and TC are heavy. Lots of plastic to remove. Need extra long extensions to get to the top bolts on the bell-housing.....some remove the intake and reach them from above? Dropping exhaust wasn't too bad, we just dropped everything from where the down pipes ends all the way and including the tail pipes. Overall not bad, just a lot of stuff to remove. |

think it books for 12 - 15 hours? not sure. some guys can do it in 8 hours, some 12+
i got quotes from indi's for $600 - $900 range |

Good catch indeed!
Btw, did you use that super expensive Loctite primer and sealant the manual prescribes? I'm trying to get everything lined up to do this in a couple of weeks from now. |
