IBS code and now no audio - HELP Please!
The other day, when I came out of work to head home, I realized that there was no sound at all from the radio. (I have an aftermarket amp and Technic's cable- there has never been a problem until now.) The blue tooth picks up the incoming/outgoing calls, and displays them, but no sound. Same with the radio, it shows the title of the mp3 song playing, but no sound.
The next morning, after the car was unused all night, I had radio/gongs/bluetooth once again for the ride into work. Came out a couple of hours later and the same thing- no sound from anything. I ran a diagnostic with the Cobb AP and it showed two codes: P2dc3-"monitoring terminal 15" and P2E8D "IBS signal transmission". I tried to reset with the Cobb- and it says it reset and cleared the codes, but still no audio. I also charged the battery fully last evening. I don't have a long commute at all (less than 10 minutes) and the car doesn't really have the chance to charge the battery, and I occasionally get the low battery icon on the dash when I play the stereo without the car running. Does anybody have any ideas? I'm several hours from the nearest dealer. |

You answered your own question.
You answered your own question.
Your battery is low or maybe old . (you see lots of 06 batterys reported as bad) Plus if you drive only short distances and let the car sit a lot this also depletes the battery. When you do an install without disconnection of the battery the car stays awake which is a considerable current draw on the battery. The IBS (INtelligent Battery System ) detects this and starts to turn stuff off to save the charge . Get a battery tender such as a Ctek . When you start to approach 2000 watts in add on equipment you may have a problem with the charging system keeping up with load. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...bU07qWboZYil_w Also is your IBS Cable still plugged in at the battery distribution strip on top of the battery? I have heard of people unpugging the IBS Cable to get the car started I wonder if it would defeat the IBS if you unplugged it allowing the stereo to run. I would measure your battery voltage first. You should be able to hear the technic harness relay turn on when you unlock the car and see the power led's on your amp go on. Last edited by ctuna; 05-09-2012 at 11:28 AM.. |

Hey CTUNA,
Thanks for responding. I actually saw one of your other posts on this issue, which had me thinking this was the problem-even before I pulled the codes. The battery shouldn't be that bad- it's a 2010 335, I did a trickle charge on the battery last night, and the meter said it was fully charged this a.m. and still no sound. I looked for codes again, and it wasn't showing any. I suppose I could do a test to check the battery voltage to make sure. But, assuming that the battery is no longer the problem, what do you think's going on- and is there a fix that I can do??? Extremely frustrated and miss my tunes Quote:

IBS problem is the battery is good .
Read the description.
Also this thread belongs in the stereo subforum most likely and not the coding section. If you had a coding setup I would use Inpa or DIS57 to see if it tells you anything more, because its going to be more BMW centric than the Cobb interface. I have had the low battery problem you describe but when I charged the battery no problem. I am wondering if just disconcerting the battery would be enough to reset the system. So I am just guessing on that one. The extreme speculation is maybe the tune is stopping a reset I know some people have had to turn there tune off to do diags and other stuff. Also you might drop back and check the basics fuses power at the amp etc.. It still sounds like a low battery. Do you live in a very hot environment that would that is way hot and eats battery's such as Arizona , Texas or the southwest or the southern states? Last edited by ctuna; 05-09-2012 at 12:04 PM.. |

Negative on the hot climate- South Dakota, it's been very mild lately. So, are you saying that if it's not the battery that it's probably the IBS sensor itself that's malfunctioning? Could I simply disconnect the IBS in the short term?

I can't really advise you on that .
I can't really advise you on that .
All I know is people have read people have done that to get there car started with a low battery and it defaults to some set parameters . Maybe you should call up the Cobb guys and see if they can tell you if there tune stops the DME from resetting properly for IBS functions. Last edited by ctuna; 05-09-2012 at 12:30 PM.. |
