I kind of agree with you guys which seems odd as I bought it. In stock form I think the 924 will never be the prettiest car. In 944 it got better. In 944 Turbo and S2 form it was the butchest of them all. The 968 lost it again. For me though I'm looking past its current form and using it to build a 924 Carrera GT which is a 80's racer through and through. I'd have preferred a 911 ultimately but I don't have a £10k ++++ budget to put a fast road/track car together at present.

I am not going to be 'Porscha!' and ram this car down your throats. I knew some of you wouldn't go for it.

Here's a link to 924 Carrera GT stuff just in case your interested. One did come 12th overall in Le Mans which ain't too shabby.

Some model Steve!

Blimey haven't the interiors changed somewhat since then.

Your plans for the car seem a good idea to me and I think you'll have alot of fun with it, so good for you and enjoy!

Not a big fan of front engined porsches either, but your plans for it look good. Derek Bell, when in this country, lives less than a mile from me, and is great friends with my dad, he has a red 924GT and it looks and sounds the bollox. I remember when he had a 959!!! Fuckin awesome car- not sure if he actually owned it or it was a Porsche GB car they let him use.

I like it.

Doesn't matter at all if others do or don't.

Most important thing is it makes you smile. Bound to be a sweet driving and handling car (low inertia, delicate steering feedback, real tyres, real cable throttle, no "you're are a driving god, baby !" electronic safety net) especially compared with the heavy and RFT-equipped E90s that the young and imperessionable fashionistas fawn over.

I can't stop smiling when back home and blasting about in the RS. Thumbs-up on every trip from loads of other drivers and makes the BMW, and indeed any other car I've met, utterly invisible when I stop somewhere.

Thanks Scooba. Spent most of the last few days re watching all the wheeler dealer programmes on Sky. Wife was complaining last night I was re watching the 944 Turbo one. For £2800 I would have bought that over my 924!! Mine is nice but not mint. The photos don't show some dull areas of paint which white hides really well. Its perfect to upgrade as its not a dog but also not concours.

I would say I like the car as is but I don't love it. The drive is 'interesting'. As said the lack of modern engineering and comforts makes you drive it rather than ride in it. When getting back in the E91 it really brings home how far cars have come in 30 years. All the creaks and crashes from the firmness of ride disappears after being in the 924. Both are different and I like both for it.

As with Dave, driving around in a good old car does make people talk to you about it. I love that. I also like pulling away from standard rep cars who can't believe how quick old cars can still be.

As for the upgrades I will be spending at least a year doing it up due to costs. I reckon on spending another £2k + on mechanicals and another £2k + on body and wheels. On the list is

Engine upgrades to 220 - 230bhp (intercooler, wastegate spring etc.)
Fully adjustable lowered suspension plus poly bushes
Currently 911 discs and pads but needs stainless hoses, green stuff pads, grooved discs etc.
Full roll cage, bucket seats, lighter carpets, removal of sound insulation, retrim some parts in Alcantara, new Momo Alcantara wheel
Carrera GT body kit
911 Turbo 16'' Fuchs wheels

Lots of websites book marked with some really trick parts mainly in Germany, Switzerland and USA.

Will never get the money back from what I will spend but that's not the point. I plan on this being a long term keeper until I can afford the 911

I have been doing exactly the same. They are great, although a little short on detail, I suppose there is usually too much to shoehorn into two 30 minute programmes.

Good luck with the 924 upgrade, looking forward to hearing about it, how about starting a thread on here detailing the work in progress when you get started!

First trackday with Porsche 924 turbo @ Zandvoort- Vrij rijden

The engine noise is music to my ears. Feel for the guy, first time out, fluffing some gear changes and hands all over the wheel, but 2 minutes in he gets his first big scare, definitely a sphincter tightening moment

Did some when I worked for Porsche. Done a couple of 'rally experience' days but not taking my own car out on my own. I reckon I will be more like vid one than vid two

Braved the cold and did some tinkering today on the 924. Fitted a turbo boost gauge and checked over the charge tube plumbing for leaks. Filled up with 99 ron unleaded and sprinkled in some lead/octane booster for good measure. Although I didn't want to drive on salted roads I did want to take advantage of the cold for cooler charge air temperatures and possibly better performance. Car ran better than previously which I think was down to fuel. Got the specified 0.7 bar boost pressure. Traction was interesting on a few occaisions. No ABS or TC in these conditions ....

Shopping list for this year

- Front mounted intercooler
- 1 bar wastegate spring
- Gaz adjustable/lower suspension + polybushes
- Brake overhaul
