Always a big fan of Mustangs... had (2) 5.0's in my teens/early 20's. I am impressed with how far they have come, and the new ones a true to ther roots... however, comparing one to any BMW isn't really fair, they each take a completely different approach to the market. Though what might be the closest apples-to-apples comparison, might be a BOSS 302 vs. M3 ZCP... From every performance stand point, and they're both n/a.

The mustang could make 1000whp but it still feels like a cheap rental car to drive.

A cheap rental car that will sh!t on our cars.

I think we, as a community, need to remove our heads from our kraut-asses and admit that an American car company built a good car. As auto enthusiasts, each and everyone one of us should be congratulating Ford for making the 5.0, and especially the Boss, so good for the money.

I drove the '13 Boss 302 a few weeks ago and it was just an awesome car. Ford really stepped up their game with that one. That motor at 7500rpm with the baffles removed is something else. I'm a V8 guy so I'd probably pick the 5.0 motor over the N54 8/10 despite the Bimmer's smoothness and ability to gain power. Nothing can replace N/A reliability and throttle response for me.

I still want to drive the ZL1 as well.

I don't get the rental car point either. The interior in the Boss was very functional and well laid out.

If it was that lop sided there would be nothing but new 5.0 owners. Obviously it isn't... Once again, performance aside, no matter how much power the Mustang makes it still feels cheap/plasticy/chincy to drive. Which was my point in the first place.

I agree. Ford made a beast with a great engine for a very affordable price. Maybe it was the seats or the way I had the seat positioned but it just didn't feel like you are in control like the bmw sport seats. I would love to try the 302 boss seats, those look like a huge improvement. It would be fun to supercharge a boss, hell they allready have forged pistons.

I also like the reliability aspect (when stock at least). I even think that a blown 5.0 would be extremely reliable (other than the standard broken peices of plastic here and there inside the car).

Its just like when I test drove a leftover 2011 gt500 before I got my e92, Yea its powerful, loud, looks great every guys dream pretty much. I just couldnt wrap my finger around spending almost 50k on a car that had the dashboard out of a focus economy rental car.

I sell Fords for a living, its what pays for my BMW in fact. To compare a 335 and a 5.0 Mustang would be like comparing a Mansion in Miami to a Castle in England. Same concept huge houses, lots of silly stuff us mortals dont need, and each will have something the other wont.

Owning my 335xi with JB4, I believe I can pace one to 60mph. After that Im not sure of the outcome. The hard part is that they do not weigh much more, they have more power, more torque, and overall its a touring car. They are amazingly more comfortable at speed than my BMW. The BMW I never lose any sense of the road under me, the Mustang you start to get to triple digit numbers and it smooths out like an airplane.

Comparing interiors is completly stupid. I said it, so you guys saying its not as nice, no $hit Sherlock. One costs upwards of 50k or more loaded up. A 5.0 Convertible with every bell and whistle wont get that high. If it did the invoice and rebates will pull it down to reality. So apples and apples new, Mustang Coupe Premium with a 6 speed is 34k. The BMW 335i coupe starts at 45k. I will keep the complications of Bluetooth, Audio systems, Navigation, and such out of it. Right from the factory the 5.0 already has the speed and power advantage, and if you havent pushed one into a corner, your magazine racing, you have no point thats worth saying so keep your trap shut. The BMW for 10k more going to be slower, get similar fuel milage, although requires premium, but will have a nicer interior.

For all you magazine Ricer types, where you point is add a JB4, Meth, Bolt on, and so on. New to New once again. Your at we will say a conservative 50k for the BMW, and what 400-450hp to the wheels? Throw a Kenne Belle 2.8 on the 5.0 for 6500 bucks. Now you have 525-550hp to the wheels and your still havent spent 40k.

Side by side they are sporty cars. One is a muscle car, one is a luxury car. Lets not confuse the two. As thier similaritys are far outweighed by thier differences.

Also for the Fanboys I know your out there, lets not throw the M3 into the mix. 60k starting, but guess what the Shelby with 662hp is also 60k. Same driver in each car, it wont be hard to find which one is the bigger bad ass of sports cars. Like I said magazine racing is junk, line up at a track and let the real world shine through.

Ive been in races that my car should never win in my past, a bad driver usually constitutes a better car losing.

Like I said I sell new Fords, and drive my BMW. I think my opinion of the two has validation as its my daily meal ticket. As for why I drive the BMW, its the interior. Next year though with the 50th anniversary, I will end up a 5.0 owner once again. Got to get working on my Mullet.

How much do you think it would cost to even get 100hp out of the mustang

The bone stock 5.0 already makes over 100 more hp than the N54 does. A V8 with an additional 2L of displacement, is built like a brick and damn near bullet proof. It wont make 100hp as cheaply as the I6 but its a monster when built. Since you like to compare stock cars to worked, maybe you'll run this with yours......and let us know when your 3 car run these kind of numbers.

Absolutely no doubt the 5.0 motor is a friggin monster. Much more capable than the n54 for far less $$.

We don't know that yet, to say much more capable is a stretch. With small displacement and small factory turbos, it is much harder to make big(Over 500whp) power due to room in the engine bay with the n54.

Now overall, I don't think the N54 will ever match the power levels of the 5.0 but it holds its own pretty nicely now that some single turbos are running in the 10's. That's not too shabby if you ask me.

Hasn't the Mustang always had the LSD as an option? I thought for MY13 Ford removed the LSD from the Brembo pack, which includes more than brakes, and put it in the track pack to force people to buy it for more money....

No you're dumb for saying that X car (in your case, the G37) beat the 335i in every statistical category for "handling" performance and still state the 335i handles BETTER.

News flash. If a car goes through the slalom faster, turns a quicker lap time, and has higher skid-pad figures...It handles BETTER. Not the other way around.

I think what I was doing is the exact opposite of "magazine racing". I went into the real world, and drove the 5.0. Per the car salesman's instruction, i took it into a few turns very hard. I took it from 0 - 100mph multiple times. Magazine racing is when people look at stats and talk about them like they are truth, not drive two cars back to back in the real world and contrast and compare.
