HURST280, thanks for posting the pictures and the instructions.

Was anyone else able to resolve the rattle using those instructions? Is this really the cause of all of our rattles, or are there just many different sources - meaning we will all have to experiment?

Thank you

Hey guys, I am also experencing this click, rattle whatever noise. I think I found the source. Last evening I notice that at a stop light if you move the steering wheel back and forth (left to right) very lightly until you meet resistance you'll hear a click like plastic to plastic. Now if you are sitting in the seat with your head looking forward and hear this clicking sound you can not tell where it is coming from. I thought it was my seat, and then my rear armrest but over rough roads and irregular surfaces your hands rock back and fourth on this free play causing the knock, click sound. Make sure everything is quite in your car and try it. I think that this will have to be a dealer fix.
I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has this

Mine is definately from the rear parcel shelf. There is a plastic vented piece back there, and if I push on it it cracks and pops. Might try to remove it at some point.
Go to the back and simply push down on it, you'll hear it!!!

I dont know if I have same noise. It makes me so stressed out. so annoying
I went bwm three times. They couldn't hear that. Especially, when I accelerate, it is loud. I feel like that noise coming from the underneath of car or somewhere because I can't hear well when I close window.
Anyone has the solution for this?

Yeah, now that I know where it's coming from, it drives me nuts. Every third or fourth bump, "crack"
I'm going to figure out how to remove the peice, and put some foam weatherstripping or felt on it, like should have been done from the factory!

I think that I have solved the problem of cracking, popping and other noise from the back. The noise was coming from the latch holding the left rear seat against the back. I loosened the bolts slightly, to allow the latch connection to move a little bit with the car, so the latch and connection did not bind.

To do this, there are two bolts holding the latch connector in the trunk of the car. Loosen them enough so that the latch connection can move slightly so that they do not bind.

It has stopped all noise in the rear. I believe this is the source of many peoples problems.

That can't be it on my car, since I do not have rear fold-down seats. It's the shelf for sure. I haven't found a way to remove it yet though. I've been in the trunk, and there has to be a way. It looks like it snaps in, as I don't see any screws or bolts.

Anyone with any info on this Please post up!!!

I have the same problem... It's an intermittent popping sound that appears to be coming from the rear shelf or rear windsheild. It doesn't just necessarily happen only on bumps or uneven surfaces. It's very annoying and I have no clue as to the root cause.

OK, finally, it is fixed.
When I drop off the car, the SA ask me to go out for a test drive with the service manager. He also heard the noise.
They end up have to keep the car over night.
Here is what they put on the work order:

Complaint: Check for cause for rattle noise coming from the reat of vehicle.

Cause: Roadtest and verified concern. Re/Re bottom seat and roadtest, nosie still there. Re / Re back seat. Roadtest, On noise dissappeared. Another nosie is coming from rear shelf. Re/Re and resecure rear shelf. Roadtest , noise corrected.

Correction:
Applied grease between back seat bolts and frame.
Realigned rear shelf.
Applied grease between EKP nut and body.
Applied grease between rear seat belts bolt and body
Resecure all bolts.

Now.....I drive for 5 days already after I got my car back and all noise are gone!!!!

I've given up. Just struck a deal for a new 328 coupe! I'll only have to deal with the rattle until end of Dec. I hope the E92 doesn't have the same problem.

Rear Noise

I had this resolved at the dealer on my 2007 CPO 335i sedan. It was the rear shelf area/window vent area. They placed felt tape in that area and the noise is gone. There is some minor ticking where the third brake light is (headliner area). But that seems to be temperature related as when it warms up - it's disappears.
