Insuring Mods

Just an FYI for anyone who does not have their mods included in their insurance policy. I just updated my policy with Geico to cover my recently added mods, the total to cover all my mods on a six month policy is only $58.10. If you dont have this, you might want to call your insurance company and see if they have it available.

That's not bad, it's only less than $10 a month. Thanks...now I have an idea how much it will cost me to insure my mods. I've been planning to do this because insurance will only replace OEM parts.

I have USAA ..called them to add my spoiler on my policy they told me I was already covered for $5,000 worth of mods. Anything thats on my car is automatically covered. That was news to me. Over 5k I'd have to call and add it to my policy.

Didn't know USAA does this. Pretty awesome. Thanks.

If you have performance mods, insurer thinks you're a risk. Insurance goes up. Seems like a really bad idea.

Allstate told me something similar (though didn't quote a specific dollar amount). My adjuster told me that any aftermarket parts on my car would be factored into my claim if they were damaged; I'd just need to provide receipts for them during the claim process if needed. I assumed he was referring to things like wheels or appearance mods (like blacklines for example), rather than performance parts, though he didn't specify.

Not true, I had almost 20k in performance mods on my Audi and it never went up, in fact I told them I used my car in a performance driving school and they took an extra $15 a month off. You can call Geico and they will verify that.

My friends car was totaled from the hail too, and yes they did factor it in....he got 10c on the dollar. This covers it 100%

I'll pass.

If someone steals my wheels...insurance would replace the OEM 19's + tires which will probably run about $5,000+ based on quotes from my dealership. I always ask for a check...so I would profit pretty nicely.

^^So yea...the day I see my wheels stolen I won't even sweat it. They can take the 18" Forgestars lol

Figures.

Sorry about your friend's car. Luckily none of my mods were damaged so I didn't have to deal with insurance to replace them. Instead, I got new ones with some of the money But my car's still not out of the body shop, and that was June

Trade Secret in Plano. The owner is a really nice guy, but the whole process has taken about 5 weeks too long, in my opinion. It will be 9 weeks on Tuesday (and that's counting from when they started working on the car, not from when they ordered parts etc).

I finally told them that I'll be picking it up next week, whether it's finished or not. I've got shit to do. lol

I recommend Details in Addison if it's not complete. They do amazing work, unfortunately I know first hand. One of my Audi's got rear ended pretty bad and caused 12k in damage. I upgraded to a carbon fiber wide body kit =)

You're not the first person I've heard good things from about Details. I'll definitely check them out for future work

State farm notes your mods when they do the photo inspection of your car. Whenever you make a change swing by your local agency and ask them to take new photos and send them into the company.

State farm does not raise your rates due to performance mods. The only time you may see a rate change is when you completely change the value of your car, such as swapping a Lamborghini motor into a Volkswagen.

+1

Allstate told me the same thing. Anything I can provide receipts/proof of purchase for (parts and install) would be covered.
