Sh!t news about the speeding tho Paul, I thought I had been done there before - they are dead sneaky as they park just out of sight and with the long grass on the verges, they are difficult to spot. I defo think an awareness course is the way to go if you can - my business partner got done a few years ago, as he had 6 points already, filled his missus in as the driver of the car, and she had to attend a speed awareness course. She drives very slowly herself & reckons they are twice as bad when you don't even speed ha ha |

Just so you know, on the letter you got from the po....leece, you can see somewhere on it, cant remember where, there is a set criteria to be able to "qualify" for the speed awareness course. If you are outside of this "window of opportunity" then its the fine and the relevant points im afraid. Also you have to admit it was you driving and not contest it.
To be honest i found the course quite informative, i had a advanced driving instructor take mine and they made it semi fun and interactive at the same time as educational. Hasnt sunk in as im always haring around, but good to go on it in my point of view. Helps you understand what the speed limits are on certain roads, when there are not many signs about, as thats what got me, thought i was in a 40 but it was a 30 and the po.....leece were sitting there in the van eating doughnuts and drinking coffee with their little toy filming all us naughty little speeders! Good luck hope you get the course but check the letter to ensure you made the grade! lol |

I know how the OP feel's. Had the same thing happen to me doing 58mph in a 50. The worst thing was i didn't know i had gone past a van/police camera until i found out from work. Apparently they was on a bridge overlooking the a49.
The second time i got done by a speed camera which face's the car with no lines in the ground. I got a NIP through the post with the option to go on a speed awareness course which i was very happy with as i didn't want anymore point's as i already have 6. The speed awareness course was packed though with all sorts of different people their. |

That's bad luck, Paul.
I think that bloody van got me on the A460 at Hednesford the other day, waiting for the letter now (or not hopefully....), which is a pisser as I've generally a very good boy these days, because... I was nicked on my bike in '97 for "allegedly" doing 106mph in a 60 limit (A51 between Longdon and Lichfield). Magistrates were lenient and I 'got off' with a £500 fine and six points but no ban. The fines were means tested and my smart brief never handed my forms in, (magistrates never asked) however, my mate who was with me was 'lucky' enough to have just been made redundant and his payoff was still in his bank account. His dozy brief handed his forms in and he got a £1000 fine... I've been clean since (well, we'll see, fingers crossed!) On another note regarding drinking (not applying to you obviously), a few years ago my parents were hit head on by a drunk driver one night at about 11.30pm. The 'youth' bought the car in the pub an hour before, totally pissed and was high as well. My Dad got out, but my Mom was cut out and carried away on a back board. The youth's girlfriends head hit the 'A' pillar and she was taken to the trauma centre at Stoke. Fortunately, after treatment, the olds both largely recovered, although some minor things are permanent. The 'youth' was already banned for drunk driving and of course, had no tax, no MOT, no insurance. He went down for six months, out in three and is no doubt driving around as I type. Drinking and driving isn't funny.... /Sermon

Paul,
I got caught doing 64 in the ridiculous 40 on the A34 in Tittensor in April, by the monkey forest roundabout. I have a road angel which was warning of a known mobile site at the time, as it does every few hundred metres, but they were so well hidden.... And i'd checked the staffs road safe site and knew they were on the A34 that day, along with 10 other possible locations. All the the help and they still get you. Still i'd rather pay ££££ instead of points as they're the real penalty. Go to their website for info on awareness limits. |

Even when you take the course and not the points i think you still need to declare the offence to your insurers my last renewal I was asked if I had been in a speed awareness course.

Not much use now but my Road Angel connected is worth its weight in gold but even then you have to take all the mobile van warnings seriously. I wouldn't be without it the amount of hassle stress and money that thing has saved me.....it even updates its self automatically and tells you if there is a live van!! Probably works out cheaper than 1 fine and the extra on the insurance.

I sent the letter back yesterday so just waiting now for the fine and points or speed course, saw my mum last night and looks like my sisters boyfriend thinks he got done a few days ago in Stafford by the van he was doing 40 in a 30.
I'm lucky really about insurance they aren't bothered to be honest due to it being a fleet motor policy as long as you have got a valid licence it doesn't make any difference as they insure the car and not the person. Our production manager got done drink driving a few years back in a company car, (got done the morning after) and once he got his licence back all the insurance company did was increase his excess from £100 to £1200 in the event of a accident and our policy cost stayed the same. Good job the van wasn't on the that road when Paul (m3fast) took me for a blast is M3 he would have been in court with his wallet in one hand and Ky in the other Funny thing he was only doing 60mph |

A colleague of mine had his DD ban reduced from 2 years to 18months by going on a course.
Once he did get his license back, he had a new company car. (320d on lease). The company did not tell the insurance company about his recent ban. Two months later, the car was stolen off his drive. (broke into his house while everyone was asleep and took the keys). The insurance company refused payment! The company had to stump up the cost of a replacement car. The insurance company then loaded the premium so high, the MD refused it and my collegue had to go on the 'option scheme'. Cost him around £1200 to insure a 2 year old Ford Fiasco... |
