An after thought. I presume that all global bmws have the same software/hardware and key systems. Is bmw going to mention this in other countries? Not seen anything in the US or europe section.
Not quite so prevalent in other countries owing to the fact that the blindspot in the motion sensors only occurs in rhd cars.

I doubt the alleged soon to be released software upgrade will do anything to address that situation.

My dealer phoned me yesterday, and told me he'll let me know when/if the upgrade is available, bit of a pain having to put the port back to it's original position, but I'll leave all the trim off,so I can hide it again

Just rang BMW and they checked my car which is a 2006 and they say it isn't affected.

Its an E92 and has the OBD port in the footwell.

Anyone know anything else as I had assumed it would effect all the range with the new style "key"?

Sorry if its been covered elsewhere!

I'll pop into my Dealers and ask this.

Will post any reply.

Still relevant to me as I visit the UK with my car. Don't want to hitch back ..

TBH Greg I think BMW are being somewhat economical with the truth here.

From what I understand there is a cut off point that BMW have arrived at,and decided that pre 07 cars are unlikely to be targetted (probably due to age), and rather than do ALL cars that are at risk, they are being selective at the cars that are going to be offered the update when/if it becomes available.

If you've not already moved your port,I'd suggest you do so,it is very easy.

If it gives you any comfort,I'm suspicious of the effectiveness of any upgrade, and I'll be moving my port back to it's hidden location post the upgrade.

Don't manufactures have an equation that they work to on these type of things?

Damage to brand against cost of work/recall etc.

I had my suspicions that this might be the case!

Just read up on the port relocation and looks simple so I'll give that a go this weekend. Give a bit of peace of mind when leaving it away from home....

I've just relocated my OBD socket.

Question though, the OBD panel, is that supposed to 'click' back into place? I slotted it back in and that was it. I just feel it's not on as tight as it should be.

I rang the 01 number ealriler on this afternoon and got straight through within 10 seconds so I presume it may have died down a bit. Gave all my details and mine is one of the affected ones. They asked for my nearest dealer and took down my reg/name and telehone details and said I would e contacted within the 8 weeks from the dealer to have a software update

I have relocated my OBD port but will be putting it back when it goes in and using my disklok when parking in open car parks

I don't think the CS people know because there have been references to both software & hardware fixes, maybe BMW don't know either. I can't see what a new locking system would do because it will still be part of the central locking system

Screwdiver in the door lock, and the windows drop, hence some cars are being nicked without the glass being broken.

I think new locks would be a fairly long & hence expensive fix & it still wouldn't do anything for the OBD problem
