I can only think that you have the thick wires the wrong way round maybe? Did you trace one all the way to the Sub?

Yes, well as far as I could. The only side I have doubt over is the drivers side, the splices were virtualy under the seat and I didn't have a torx bit big enough to remove the seat, passenger side i'm 99.99% sure that's correct which is why i'd of thought I'd have one side working.

Test both left and right and check signal is going to the Amp. If it is, then looks like the amp could be at fault (as its unlikely that every output channel is incorrectly wired).

I would definitely check the feed to the amp at the amp itself then. If you have signal going into the amp, then it suggests the fault is with the amp itself.

Ok,
At the amp definitely have a input on one side but no output (struggling to check the other side, it’s dam painful hanging out the boot with a slipped disk in my back). What I find strange is every now and then the amp light goes out and also very occasionally i’ll get a crackle through the front speakers. |

Yes, I’m pretty please with it, there’s a lot more clarity to the sound, I reckon the subs could do with upgrading. I’ve seen on here a thread somewhere, a sub upgrade that doesn’t require any modifications the sub housing.

On each side of the car you will find two splices, each splice cotains three wires, first splice three blue/brown, second splice three blue/ black. Each splice will have two thin wires, these are the mids (door speakers). The two thicker wires, one pair will be for the head unit, the other pair for the subs, easiest way to identify a pair is trace a blue/brown & a blue/black to the sub. The remaing pair are for the head unit.

Glad to hear you sorted out the wiring JonD.
I had the same trouble as you identifying the wires at the splices and I described my method of identifying them in post 38... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...7&postcount=38 |

As this is a sticky would you mind editing the very first post to include the wiring diagrams there please? I don't mind looking through threads but they are right down on page 10. Thanks!

No problem since this diagram is not mine originally. If the original poster agrees sure that admins can put it on page 1. But I cannot do that since I am not admin

Audio sytem design fault (PDC Volume Adjustment)
Have you tried adjusting the PDC volume via the audio menu? I did that when I first got my car with the Alpine upgrade fitted as a dealer option - damages your hearing as audio system gos to max volume! Ask bmw to sort design fault and they will tell you there's nothing wrong!! Design fault on all models with PDC and voice activation system.
Anyone else got the same problem? Be careful! |

I don't get your point either? The PDC beeps are loud when you turn the stereo up and the PDC volume up? Hmm, how about turning the volume down?

hey im having some problems with my system. i recently had the alpine upgrade installed by bmw. but now when i listen to a bassy or full sounding piece of music at moderately high volumes, a clicking / tapping sound seems to be coming from the subs. I took the car back to bmw and they said there was some 'internal fault' with the drivers side sub and have ordered a new one under warranty. after playing around with the balance / fader , i believe that the clicking seems to come from both sides. im not entirely sure that new a new sub will fix the problem.
anyone got any ideas? |

The line-in feed from the speakers 'wake' the amp up. No seperate power control cable.
