Can someone verify this...
When you have DRL on, and only DRL, are your tail lights illuminated?

Thanks, that's probably why they made them LEDs so they won't burn out from excessive use with the DRL...those engineers at BMW think of everything.

Shinchan, I your efforts on this topic. The ultimate solution would be to have the different sets of bulbs photographed from the same angle under the same lighting conditions with the same camera. I would gladly volunteer to undertake this task but my E92 won't be here until April. Any other volunteers?

Shinchan,
Thank you for putting the images together. I'm trying to make my decision tonight and that was a big help.

Regarding the Mtec Cosmo Blue's:
Can anyone tell me if the rings and fogs are Mtec Cosmo Blue or just the rings? Does anyone have the Blue in both rings and fogs? Thanks for your help.

I guess it depends on one's perspective and color choice. I think the lighter colors, whites/grays/silvers would benefit from a "whiter" angel eye to create more of a contrast, whereas the darker colors already contrast well with the stock bulbs.

I tried the Cosmos and GP thunder in the fogs. Didn't look right to me, too blue.

I like the Mtec super whites or Hoen in that application. I stuck with the Mtec. Just my .02

OK I got all my lights, here are the results (no pics yet, wife is out of town with camera, I will get some next week).

This is all imo. The lights I have are H3 GP Thunder, MTEC super white, cosmos blue, and H8 super white.

The GP Thunders are definitely the brightest in both the angel eyes and the fogs. They have a slight purple hue to them and are mostly a really bright white/blue. They provide some contrast with the Xenons. These are by far the brightest when the Xenons are on. This is the only one that lights up the outer corona "well" (imo), the others you can tell it is just a reflection of light, it doesn't look lit.

The MTEC super whites are the second brightest, they are totally white as far as I can tell; they match the Xenons very well. If they were brighter I would use them as the angel eyes.

The Cosmos blue are the dimmest, they are a little more dim than the super white and as suggested, a little more blue/white. No purple hue in them. These are way too dim when the Xenons are on, imo. Actually they are too dim in general.

When I bought these bulbs I knew I liked the stock rings, but wanted to try something different just to see. This has confirmed to me at least that with my color the stock rings are the ones I like best. They are the brightest and provide the best contrast against the Xenon.

I tried all three in the fogs too and liked the Super Whites the best because they match the Xenons. The H8 cornering light looks very good too (the super white one). So for now I am going stock corona, super white H8 and super white fogs. Maybe as time goes on a brighter replacement bulb will be released; for now all three are a little dim as the coronas (and in the case of the GPs, a little too purpley). Cheers.

Thanks Picus for all your efforts. I'm sure this answers lots of questions for those that are interested in swapping out bulbs. Do you plan to do a photoshoot comparing the different bulbs when you have access to your camera?
