Major problem n55

So I installed my jb4 about a month ago and my at was running strong. A week later I was doing some hard pulls on map 5 e85 and my car went into limp mode. I let it cool down and it was fine again. A few days later I got a check engine light but it would turn off once I would let the car sit. Then randomly my jb4 stopped working. I could not go into the menu through my steering wheel. So I took out my jb4. In the mean while my chargepipe blew and I orderd a new one and installed it. When I put my jb4 back on the car I immediately got a half engine light and my car would not go over 5 pounds of boost. And when I would accelerate hard the BoV was loud and the turbo was studering. So I took out the jb4 and now my car runs hard again like it was stock. And I haven't gotten an engine light.. So can it be my jb4? Help please I've had so many headaches already

Could be your JB4 unit, I had similar issues a while back but haven't had the time to diagnose it

Carlos - if you are going to use a tune, you are going to have to slow down a bit. The installation is fairly straight forward, but has been known to produce errors just like you mentioned if done incorrectly. If you don't feel confident that it is done correctly, seek a professional installation and make sure the battery ( - ) is disconnected during install.

Also, use the USB cable and the JB4 interface. If you are experiencing an issue, GET THE CODES and send them to Terry @ BMS.

The JB4 is a simple boost controller, but w/o any specs on your current configuration, it is extremely difficult to provide advice here on the forum.

I had a pretty similar problem. I put in e85 a few times and ran it on map 5 and the car would pull extremly hard but then I began to get some codes, my SES light would come on, and some times I would only boost up to 5. I would also get serious misfires. I got a code (2D0D) for my o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 having a problem so I'm going to buy a new one. My dealer said he's never seen a the bank 1 sensor 1 sensor broken on an n55 so I'm not sure if its just a false code (not sure if they have those or not). Pretty just I have a cracked chargepipe as well so I'm buying a new one.

Did you do the ISO firmware update before you began to put in e85 and did you have the flex fuel wires installed? How much e85 did you put in the tank?

It happened to me after I put e85 on map 5 also! And my car is throwing the same code for the o2 sensor like yours

Hmm then maybe it's a false code? Or maybe the e85 just completely messed up the o2 sensors. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to buy new o2 sensors when my o2 sensors might be fine. Do you misfire as well? When I started putting in 91 my car began to act more normal but still seemed to have some issues such as misfires every now and then. The code still shows though. Any suggestions on what to do? Maybe get a chargepipe first and see if that might be a problem bc the car seems to only boost to about 5 psi last time I checked but it still seemed fast.

Also did your car tell you it went into limp by getting the reduced power warning or was it just something you noticed since there was no power and could just tell? I've never gotten the reduced power warning but It has felt like my car did not pull at all and I was only boosting 5 psi on map 5 at times.

It started happening after I used e85 as well and my half engine light would come on after 3 min of driving. But when I take out my jb4 the car runs fine

I also got the 2d0d code with map 5 e85 on the JB4 a while back. Car was having rough idle and surging issues, but seems to be better now. Triple check you don't have a small boost leak - tighten the clamps on the chargepipe.

What did you do to fix the 2d02 code? It says its bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor but could this be a cause of a boost leak or the TMAP sensor being messed up? Anyone else getting the 2d02 code?

My car service states that the pre-cat o2 sensor was replaced. There was also a boost leak on my chargepipe (I discovered this later on my own).

So I guess the question is, does e85 have the capability to damage o2 sensors?

Or perhaps it's misfiring caused by the e85 that causes the sensors to fry?

So it was the pre-cat o2 sensor that had to be fixed and was messed up and the chargepipe was leaking?

Must be the e85 messing up the o2 sensors and the high boost cracking the chargepipe. How much were you charged to fix the pre-cat o2 sensor? You took it to BMW with the downpipe? My tech said he wouldn't be able to warranty it if it was the o2 sensor since I'm cactless.

Don't have downpipes so o2 was under warranty; my chargepipe wasn't cracked it was aftermarket and the clamps loosened up over time.

Did you still have the codes after the o2 sensor fix? Did you fix the chargepipe after you fixed the o2 sensors and then only when you fixed the chargepipe the 2d02 code went away? Whats the 2cff code?

The two codes I had were:

2d0d - oxygen sensor before cat heating
2cff - oxygen sensor before cat

I have not had any 2d0d codes after the replacment o2 sensor, but I don't know if it's because they replaced the sensor or because I fixed the chargepipe leak at roughly the same time.

I HAVE had 2cff come back though, which is very frustrating and also related to o2 sensors.

I am suspecting that misfiring caused by e85 mixture problems is killing the o2 sensors due to heat, especially because the 2d0d code is specifically for heating.

If you wind up needing any help you need only contact BMS. First thing they will want to know is what exact codes are you getting with it installed.

I had an issue where my car shut off completely and stopped working on map5 e85. I took of the jb4 and my car wouldn't go into boost at all. I took it to the dealer and the DME needed to be replaced. They screwed me with $2k for a new DME and installation. Dealer could not diagnose the issue so a BMW field service rep was called out and he flagged the repairs since the system was tampered with. I went into the dealer with no modifications.
