I took my car in 3 times for this. The first time they chamfered the rotors and that fixed it for a couple of months. But the problem has been back worse than ever.
I took the problem twice back (and its a huge inconvenience to drive to my dealer) and they were able to again identify the problem but this time said they cant do anything about it until my brake pads are worn below a specified level. As you can imagine, its embarrassing having your $50k luxury cars brakes squeek so loud. I've honestly gotten better service from my Chevy dealership when my Z06 had problems. Im definitely going to rate my dealership differently the next time I get the chance to. |

Have brought mine in for the squeak 3 times...first two times they couldn't reproduce the sound or didn't know what I was talking about. 3rd time they attempted a repair, where they sanded down the parking brake shoes and the wear sensor. This fixed it for about 2 days, but it came back just as loud as before. I will be bringing in for a 4th time here soon, and hopefully they can get it this time.

4th time, they did even less this time, just cleaned off the brake dust. Of course this didn't do anything, and I told them that would be the case. Regardless, I am due for brakes in 9k miles, so as long as it doesn't get worse, I will just wait it out.

it's the brake sensors touching the rotors. this is a known problem and has been addressed in the TSB. mine was replaced by the dealership not too long ago.

Just looked at nhtsa.gov and can't seem to find the TSB you mention. Could you show me so I can show my SA? Thanks. |

Just got my car back after having it in service. Dealer said they can't replicate the problem, even though it does it EVERY time I drive the dang car. Anyone have specifics on this TSB that seems to be floating around? I'd like to go back to my SA armed with some hefty ammo...

Squeaky breaks during acceleration are result of break drying/readiness system
I have had the same problem with my 335i 6mt for the last 10k miles. Despite three trips to the dealer, and several calls to BMWNA. Two weeks ago I finally got the head service tech to go on a test drive with me. He acknowledged the sound, and informed me that it is a very common problem related in part to the software which automatically dries the breaks in wet weather, and readies them for use. Apparently, it does not release the rear breaks quickly enough after they are worn. The only "fix" that is available is to replace the pads, which will need to be done (depending on the amount of stop and go driving, etc) every 10-15k miles, even though they may still have 9-7 mm left on them.
My pads were replaced and the squeak is gone. Do not let them tell you that this cannot be done simply because the breaks have not reached the 3mm spec thickness, this is simply a lie on their part. If you make enough noise they will replace them, and they are well aware of the problem. |

TSB
Also, the TSB is not specific to the breaks, it was discussed at a 9/2007 "roundtable" Tell the service tech that and he will know what you are talking about.

Will after market brakes fix the problem? I've had this problem since the beginning. I'm at 18k miles now. They couldn't reproduce the sound when I brought it in so I gave up. Unless they redesigned the brakes, the sound will come back even if you get them replace by the dealer.

actually if this sound is coming from the sensors touching the rotors, is it possible to drive without the sensors? or will this give an annoying brake warning light??

Went to the dealership today and couldn't replicate the squeak. And the shop foreman wanted to blame the squeak on my hotchkis rear sway bar. My SA told me they could try and wait for it to warm up and try to replicate the noise, but if they determine it comes from the rear sway I'd have to pay for the diagnostic time. I just told them to forget about it, I'm not going to try and fight the shop foreman about where the noise is coming from. They also noticed i'm missing two sets of cats, not a big surpise there. I guess i'll just leave with it

I have the same squeaking problem. So they coulden't bullshit me and tell me they coulden't reproduce the squeak I made the tech go for a test drive with me. They replaced the pads and sent me on my way. I brought the car back in because it was still squeaking and I don't know what they did the second time but it seems to have gone away.
My SA told me they are waiting on BMW to address the issue.
