Yup what he said

Two main parts of this month of fasting, first being the fasts during the day and second is the "tharavee" prayer which is the evening prayer which at the moment starts at 10:45 and finished at 12 last night !

I slept though Sehri (the time you get up and eat) - so by the time I've eaten/drank tonight - it's going to be over 24 hours since I last ate.

I miss the cigarettes and Coke Zero more than the food!

I didnt bother going to sleep after tharavees. So got back from mosque at 12 and just stayed awake till sehri (time we eat in morning) and went to sleep at 4ish. I guess working 2-10 helps so I can get up at 12:30 and go to work!

Only downside is that I open my fast at work which is a bit sad!

LOL. I'm afraid there's many more where you brother in law comes from. I don't get it - The whole point of Ramadan is for people to see, learn and live the way God intended us to. So they change and give up all the bad things for one month of the year and then go back to being the part time muslims they were before, as soon as Ramadan finishes.

The last time Ramadan was at this time of the year, i was around 7 years old. It's been a tough old day already and it's only day 1!

I have not had a drop of alcohol for 7 weeks. Decided to stop drinking for a month and have not found a good enough reason to have a drink since.

I really could not stop eating during daylight hours though, even in winter it would be a no no.

He makes me smile but drives my wife crazy. For any meal he will insist on halal but will quite happily have it with alcohol. I suppose most people of any faith pick and choose.

an hour's training means the fast will open almost straigh after... hence no long wait after a session!!

I guess so, but at the same time training itself with a fast and plus not being able to drink water during must be hard.

Ramadhan Mubarak to you all.

I don't miss the food - just the water especially when we have cars on the dyno and workshop temp gets a bit high!

RAF555 - you are a brave man training - I'd faint!

So, does the fast mean no liquid as well as no food?

Oh, and another question from an ignorant bloke, how often does Ramadan come around?

I wondered why Imran had been having BBQs every day for the past few weeks. Obviously been storing some away.

No food or drink or smoking (if your a smoker)

Comes around once a year but as the Islamic year is based on a lunar calender (ie each month is determined by the moon) in effect its about 11 days less then a year.

For those members up in or near Newcastle.. (Vaheed)

Can you recommend any place for iftari/sehri? Im up there for a few days during Ramdhan and staying in a hotel so will be on the lookout for somewhere to eat after work! (Working 2-10 so probably do a iftari/sehri in one)

Was thinking Akbars cos thats quite nice but not sure what time it closes. The worst part (for me) about going away is the bloody food!!! lol

Also any Shisha lounges in Newcastle?

Urfan, There's a few hidden gems up here. If you're after restaurant style food then there is Akbars, but it's nowhere near as good as the Bradford/M'boro ones. I recommend a little Turkish place called Red Mezze just in the shadows of St. James Park. Gorgeous Mediterranean food. Also, on the West Road, there's a little place under a hotel called Luigi Khans. It's a Hybrid of Indian and Italian dishes (not mixed!) The food is outstanding.

If you want take away food - There's a place further up the West Road called ' Mumtaj's' - (green sign) their food is pretty good. Or we have a Halal KFC just outside of the Metro Centre.

Thanks Vaheed,

What time do you reckon these places will close? I imagine 10-11 would be the latest? I wont finish work till 10

Ive tried the Akbars there and I thought it was quite nice, thought the food was just as good if not better then the Akbars in Leeds/Bradford.

I guess its just gna have to be a mix of restaurant for iftari and some sort of takeaway later on in the night before going sleep!
