Speaking to Sytner sales person today when picking my car up - he reckons he could get into my car, damage free, in less than 5 minutes and drive it away. They use a scrambler to "flood" the ECU and unlock the car before putting in a new key to code it. The "new" software fix will last for only a week or so until they find a way round it.

My OBD's being moved tomorrow!

I am still confused as to why the only topics about this seem to be in the UK?

Surely BMW's across the world are affected?

I read that apparently it could be that the left hand drive cars dont have the blind spot in the alarm, but surely the ODB vunrability is still there?

Typical BMW bullshit. They know 100% there's a problem with ALL push button start BMW cars made up until 2011. Yes its mainly M Sport (not m power as they told Chris) models, only for the fact they are more attractive and fetch better premiums, but SE versions still vanish regularly.

Funny how there will be a 'fix' in 3 weeks, it was 4 weeks 4 weeks ago.

BMW uk. Shady as fook.

Was there ever a recall issued for this?

Hi Chris, sorry to hear about your car, I know you have put much time and money into that car and all your cars, it was always interesting to see what you was upto next with it.

Hope you return with another BMW project, this forum will definately miss you if not

Just read all of this and going to move my obd on my 2006 e90 at the weekend, only question is when moved, do you just leave it hanging anywhere in that dash area or is there somewhere else to attach it to?
Surely the thefts will eventually catch on to what were doing and know where to find it?

My car was in yesterday for rear brake pads. Apparently the OBD fix was ready and installed whilst it was in. Apparently it was available from last Wednesday. It was done FOC.

If some one really wants your car they'll find a way to get it no matter what you do (personally I rather they not break into the house to look for the keys). Moving the OBD port/having a dummy port means they have to spend extra time taking the trim apart to look for the moved port, which might be enough to make them give up and move onto the next car.

Bmw say the 2006 models are not affected but i have the hard evidence to prove they are so i contacted watchdog to see if they could help resolve the conflict.

Funny that, my car was in last Friday for oil service and brake fluid change and I asked when it would be available. They told me not available for 3 series yet, only X5's and X6's.

Makes you wonder if there is actually a 'fix' available......

Jag XF.... U know u are a BM guy through and through!!!!

Anyone know how much an OBD relocation costs??
Less than £15 if you do it yourself; move the original obd and fit a ebay obd extension so you have access from somewhere hidden. Took me less than an hour.

+1, I did exactly the same thing. It's very easy. Bimmerforums has a really good guide on how to do it.
