If you're on a budget, get the Magellan Roadmate 360. I got one and it's the best GPS you can buy for the money. Plus, it's easy to move from vehicle to vehicle...which is why I didn't get nav on my car in the first place.

No just buy the navigation system and set it up. There is no monthly fee. However, there is usually an annual fee if you want to upgrade the maps in the navigation system. (You usually do not have to do this unless you live or travel to newly developed areas)
Cheers

I have the Magellan 800. I paid $1,000 at Sharper Image in December and they are selling it for $700 now. I bet you can get it for less.
It is absolutely unbelievable. It has a 20GB harddrive, so all maps of entire US are on it and it even has most of Europe (although an extra unlock code has to be paid for). It works just GREAT. And, it has a rechargeable lithium battery, so if you are going less than 2 hours, you don't have to plug it in. I got Nav on my new 330 that's coming in June, but, I just know that I am going to find out that the Magellan is really a much better unit. Screen is bright; Directions are easy. It's just fun to use. Oh, yes. The 800 is also capable of playing MP3's and it also can hold your digital photos and show them as a slideshow. Look at the opinion I wrote in EPINION.COM. It should help. It's a lot more detailed. Larry |

Yes you can just put it out whenever you need it. Plus leaving it out will not only create clutter but will draw unwanted attention (i.e. thieves )

I just keep the Magellan 800 in my glovebox until I need it. Then, I put the suction cup mount on the front windshield and use the unit. And, that mounting system is really well made. It is very substantial.
You should contact Magellan and see who sells the unit in Europe. They must sell it there because the unit has the European maps already on the hard drive. L |

TomTom
I have the TomTom Go 300 Good System. Simple to use, it has gotten confused a few times when I have come across Huge Interchanges. Overall I would say It is a good product.
