My car nightmare and F30 328 sport review

Sorry for the long read, pics to follow soon.

So it all started the morning of October 7th around 10:30 am when I was headed up to la for a BMW event at the dealership in Glendale. I arrived w no drama after a 130 mile drive . After stopping for breakfast and some coffee I found Parkin on a side street ate my breakfast.. As I gathered my things I started to get out of the car when bam!!! A nice lady decided she didn't like m car door and attempted to remove it w her front bumper by ramming it at around 35 mph. Good news BMW makes strong cars the glass did no break and only damage was the door interior panel and the front fender... Bad news is the door would not close and I was 130 miles from home. My car was promptly towed to a body shop ... Now the nightmare begins.. After two weeks nothing had been done because the ladies insurance was claiming it my fault.

Well after much argument my insurance just went ahead and started the process and getting my car fixed .. Well 5 weeks later I went back up to pick up my car. While in the shop I did have them paint and install my m3 rep front bumper. So that was good but when I arrived the had ordered the wrong interior door panel. I think it was for a 328.. I pointed it out they had installed THe wrong panel and speaker. (I have a 7logic system) they then informed me that the stereo wasn't working and the TPM was not working! After waiting 7 weeks I said I'll just take it to BMW and let them sort it out!! I was pissed I had to spend the whole day at the body shop waiting for the door panel and speaker to show up from the dealer. I ally I get out of there at 4:30 pm after being there since 9am. Took me 5 hrs to get home too in lovely LA traffic!!

So I drop the car off at south county BMW in el cajon ( I love these guys btw) they are all modded car friendly, love bmws and love to help they have me a brand new F30 328 sport for a loaner and said they would call me . So 5 hrs later they call me, the verdict is the antenna in the fender for the TPM was not installed, and they also forgot to plug in a harness and that's why the stereo didn't work! Seriously wtf!!!

So I get my car back finally fixed tomorrow!! What a nightmare!!

As far as the F30.. Where to start.

The power is good as long as your in sport mode otherwise the thing won't get out of its way! Granted its no 335!! Lol the start stop engine thing is clunky and I don't like it at all!!! The Eco pro mode is cool and good for highway crusing. I really love the new Idrive and nav system compared to mine (08 335i) . The interior is nice and seats are good! I do like the body lines.. Deff wanna keep my 335 though!! The breaks are decent bu def kinda squishy and not as firm as id like however the stock sports suspension is flat smooth comfortable and firm. Well that's about it.. That I can think of..picture to follow of the car damage and how it looks now and the F30 too just because..

How could the insurance company claim it was your fault if your car was parked?

I've driven a few f30 loaners now. Very comfy seats and way more positioning latitude. I can get the seat back AND telescope the wheel close, which is great for a tall guy like me. Plenty of headroom too. The dynamic suspension is pretty sweet, as is the HUD, and the steering isn't great, but not quite as bad as I thought it would be.

What I really don't like about the new series is how big it feels, especially in the corners. It is now a great lux touring car with some sporty aspirations rather than a near-lux focused more on being a sports car. I prefer the e90 exterior overall, and by far prefer the fit and finish of the e90 interior. It's still a solid, well-made car, but the materials just don't seem as good, imho.

Some lady hits you and you still refer to her as a 'nice' lady. Well then, you're a nice guy!

Interior panel of the door was damaged... does that mean your car door was open when she hit it, and if so, was it open wide enough that it would block the path of a passing vehicle?

If you open your door to traffic you are at fault.

F30 is more luxurious IMO, kind of a step back from sporty which a 3er is all about. But the 328 is a quick car, I've driven it and it picks up fast. Feels faster than my 330, probably is a lot faster.

Also, hope you get everything sorted out

All in the turbo. I was test driving the new C250 after our lease was up on the C350 and the 250 felt nearly as quick, and also is a 4-banger with a turbo.

THis is a gray area...
I know it because I just went through it -- pulling half way into the parking space, a girl in a parke odge decides to open her door without even looking an I hit her -- she coul not close her door, I messed up my bumper and right headlight.
Geico (my insurance) decided it was my fault and covered both cars. I did not agree with that, however, they went ahead and paid to the other owner...

Here are the pics... then I wil.l respond to everyone.. I posted that from my iphone on the BIMMERPOST app last night.. I wish that thing had a way to post pics too

From the pics you can see my door was open some.. but not all the way.. the lady was speeding and I have witnesses that say that, and she was driving really close to the cars.. the road was wide enough for two cars to pass while cars on both sides were parked.. and my door was partially opened not all the way.. she actually almost clipped me as I was getting out.. And I say nice lady.. but i was being very sarcastic... I was pissed but shit happens its only a car, i was just mad it took so long to fix and was so far away from home

and here is my baby all fixed up w her new front end too sorry for shitty iphone pics... all ive had time for lately...

oh and here is the F30... again nice car, i wouldnt buy one, but nice none the less...

Yeah it is quick... but I think thats due to the 8 speed auto... short gears make it a little faster ... but deff no 335 ;-)

no it wasnt open that wide... she was really close, and when she hit it, it opened it further obviously... if you look in the pictures, you can see that it was the bottom corner of thedoor and thats where the pannelk was cracked just a little bit..

As the OP says the important thing is nobody was hurt.

I always try to wait for a break in traffic before I get in or out of a car parked in the curb lane. Don't like being outside the vehicle with people whizzing by.

Sad part is I looked and double checked cause it was a busy street, and I didnt see her.. but when someone is doing 35-40 on a 25 residental street, kinda difficult to say really who, i guess based on the law its my fault but either way , shit happens, moving on... I was more pissed about the whole 8 weeks to get my car back and it still wasn't right.. sad story
