Wedding gift question

My good friend invited me to his wedding -- he's paying for everything except my flight there. He's asking only for cash gifts -- how much money do you give as a gift?

I was thinking $250.

Thanks.

wish my buddy was paying. I had to back out of being in his wedding because it was going to cost me a grand for just being there 2 days and that was leaving my wife at home. 1500 if she came. I'm sure he's pissed but oh well. dudes having a party here at home 2 weeks after the destination(Minneapolis) wedding.

I'll prolly pick something off their list in the 300 or so range.

Hmm, I consider him a close friend, though we really don't hang out or chat a ton. If I had to quantify our friendship, I'd say 8/10. And to qualify: 1 being a generally nice homeless man you see every day, and 10 being someone you'd loan your brand new M5 to for a couple days.

The consensus is that I'm being cheap... So I'll add more. Everyone is so rich on this forum, or he's mastered the deep bro friendship that I guess I'm missing out on.

Deep bro friendship.

Send $350. Its a nice median.

You never know when there will be a bro emergency, and you dont want him thinking "that cocksucker gave me $250 for my wedding, nah, i'm not going to pull out and answer his call" during an emergency. That extra hundo may just save you one day.

For a friend I would say $200-300 if cash or pick something in the $150+ range if it's a gift from the registry. How about giving him $200-250 and buy him a small gift as well ? Perhaps something in the $100-150 range? For my friend's wedding I bought him and his wife some china. It was like $150 on sale. I wish I had more money to spend but I was unemployed then...lol

Don't over think. If you think $250 is fair then do it. I got $0 for my wedding (crazy mom wanted us to get married ASAP because she was prego, but I loved her and wanted to anyways so it was a lot sooner then we both expected and I didn't invite anyone). At the end what matters is you show up. My best friend stop talking to me for a week because I didn't invite him to my ghetto ass wedding. And I never cared about the $$$$ just the fact that my boys would be there. But I fucked up by not telling anyone. Reason being I was banging my bosses daughter and they told me not to but she was hoooottttttt and exotic.

If you're going solo then $250 is more than sufficient. The rule of thumb is to cover your plate and drinks. Filet mignon and open bar in a nice venue is a $250 gift. A Best Western meeting room with a 1hr open bar followed by a cash bar is $100.

^ this.

While it's courteous if he's paying for a hotel, if the flights really are that ridiculous, it's expected if he wants you to go. If you're saying $400+ round trip, most people can't fork over $600 for a freaking weekend night in minnesota
