I'm your man - my wife drives a c-crosser, had new (on contract hire) since last April. 2.2hdi exclusive with the SatNav/Jukebox/Camera, done 20k miles between us. What do you want to know?

I think the S-Max looks OK for a People Carrier thingy, it looks reasonably sporty in the upmarket trim and with the right wheels. I wouldn't buy new though (unless massively discounted), it sheds it value like every Ford. How about these:

I am also in the market for a 7 seater - we have considered an S-Max and C-Crosser, but am also looking at a Pug 308 SW. Not 4x4 or an SUV but it is well priced, looks half decent and has very flexible seating.

S Max every time - a really decent MPV that handles nicely. Plus you can get it with a Focus ST engine...

I agree - the S Max is an amazing car. The 2.0TDi engine is brilliant. Handles well, fun to drive, and really flexible inside with masses of storage space everywhere. I rented one in Portugal for a few days and absolutely loved it

No Jag yet and have f@cked the gearbox on the 335D! Tomorrow I shall be Mondeo Man (assuming the hire company can deliver) so the pension can wait!

Anyhow the Routemaster allegedly suits your driving style, hence my constructive post

Heres my views on the C Crosser then, why its good as a family truck

Mitsubushi underneath means evo 4x4 system - 2wd or auto, or full 4wd lock = ace in snow

They are rare

Boot hatch splits in two range rover style

Massive boot, can be made bigger by sliding rear seats forward

2 seats in the boot for kids when you need them

Leather, Heated seats, Reversing Camera, 30gb harddrive & quality stereo, cruise, electric seats, fridge in glovebox, lots of other storage, privacy glass, plenty cup holders, etc (even has a built in lap timer and graphs of fuel consumption)

Has averaged 29 mpg mainly on school runs, 36 mpg on a run.

Importantly, NOTHING gone wrong with it, and it drives pretty well. Recently we did 2000 miles in a week in France , and then with 5 blokes in it we did 1000 miles in a weekend doing the 3 peaks challenge. Everyone is very surprised how good it is. Can just crack 10 secs to 60 but cruise easy at 90 ish. Gearbox and clutch very sweet, driving position and visibility very good.

Very few downsides - dealers are low rent, engine could be a little quieter, thats about it

Going to be very hard to replace when the contract hire runs out in April

thanks for that. it does sound good. we have 3 test drives arranged one with the c crossover, however the mrs like the hyundai santa fe because its rear seats are proper ones and as shes starting a child minding business thinks its more applicable. but well see.

Steve, my wife started a child minding business a few years ago, even the xc90 we bought didnt have enough boot space, and anyway, it was hell, the kids were all little ******* ********, and the red tape etc, **** that for a game of soldiers. I wish you luck.
