I think it might be the fact that DCT will only be offered in the top-of-the-line 335is? (limiting its availability...)

I feel 100% the same way! If not the M3, I'll jump ship and go back to Audi's RS line (when they are out).

My statement was mearly a joke. I do agree a well tuned suspension is a whole lot more important in performance When more than a straight line is involved in which our cars are made for. But our stock suspensions are more than well equiped compared to other cars in it's same class.

This applies to pretty much anything. There's always something newer and better coming out, it's just the way it is.

People will never be satisfied, that's just human nature.

This forum is slipping. A thread about 335s now takes 3 pages before the hpfp is mentioned? What a shame.

btw...if they only offer the dct on the 'is' version, you can't really call it a zhp equivalent, and thats some BS.

I would love to upgrade to this, but not without 6MT. Hope BMW is listening.

This!
Excellent write-up...
I would want 6 speed manual in iS version as well.
To throw some fire into equation, since loaded 335iS with DCT will be inching towards 50-60k mark:

On top of that, to replace the clutch in that machine is also over $3000. Longevity wise, is a big issue and the DCT lag has become an NHTSA issue on M3post.com. Plus, it is also not the "real" DCT transmission as the Z4's got a dumbed-down version of it.

Lastly, looking into BMW's own extended warranty, gold, or platinum coverage does not cover the DCT transmission clutch: "Coverage is
not afforded for standard/SMG/DCT transmission clutch assemblies, which are subject to wear and tear."

If given the chance, I would have still picked the 6MT no doubt. But like someone else said, I agree, once you option in the 335 iS with M-sport and DCT... you are looking at a M3 price territory.

Sorry, but I'll take a manual M3 over a 335 w/ DCT.

"...the recently released Z4sDrive35iS"
No 328iS- Just 335iS- I thought the part about the N54 would give that away. sDrive will only be used on Z and X vehicles- there is a whole long reason for it. xDrive will be on all cars with AWD for marketing and the reason sDrive needs to be there on some (gov't naming conventions).

The only thing that excites me is the dct. The led tails look awful to me, dumbo ears, interior changes suck, etc. I wonder what the engine improvements are and how that will affect the tunes. I assume bmw just adjusted some ecu stuff to get some extra hp?

And when is bmw gonna stop using stupid names like z4sdrive35is. That is a long ass stupid name. bmw had one of the best naming systems around.

- "Oh nice car, which model is that"
- "Oh its a bmw z4sdrive35is. Yeah just log onto www.bmwinternetforsalesitewhichsellscarshere.com and live chat with a bmwinternetsalesmenwhoisntstupid to make the arrangments to buy your new z4sdrive35is4wheelsnomaintenanceluxurysportcoupe"

Read my post above- there is a reason and it was discussed over a year ago- gov't requirement.

Next- there are extensive changes made to the cooling, and additional hardware not present on the standard motor to make it "iS". Why would you think they just tweaked the ECU if on the 740, and the BMW Performance Kit they increased cooling and air flow?

Not sure why one would need a tune when the "iS" has overboost that will spin 1-3 on dry pavement oh and get the same MPG as a stock car.

Some of this tuning stuff makes me laugh, what is the point in having a tune if A) The car only goes straight and B) Most people will never even see a track with it- (street racing light to light is for kids that usually end up in jail or killed at some point). But that is a different topic so let's get back to the DCT- LCI and the iS

The iS is will be a direct competitor to the S4/5..

I don't know exactly how the overboost works, but it sounds like it's going to make the throttle response even more nonlinear. That's not what the 335i needed. A true performance junkie will less likely buy this iS model, but instead get the regular SP version and then pop in an LSD and a moderate tune. People have been tracking the car with tunes and it has been fine, in another words the number of problems isn't any greater.

the overboost is not a function of throttle or response, the response in the Performance Kit and the "iS" is better, I can't go into details at this time on the overboost or the specifics of the iS, but soon enough... The engineers had fun building this engine and it was part of a competition of sorts.

I sure wish they could figure a way to get the BMW Performance seats as a USA option for the supersport.

The iS is looking like a very capable & fun car. Sayonara S5... Now we just need an E90 & E91 version.

In spite of the HPFP issues, sounds like the N54 is going to return.. question will the fuel pump problems be resolved or are we in for another round of misery? Like to know before looking at MY11 335i
