Well I paid the $595 that the Sirius option cost. So it looks like some people are getting lucky (like me :0) ) and others are getting screwed. I always complained that $595 was WAY too much nowadays for a $50 option, but with a lifetime service that's awesome.

And let's keep our eye on the ball here, the point of this thread was to share my experience with others so that they can make informed decisions; not to debate the utility of Sirius.
So what you are saying is that someone who buys a lifetime subscription will still get a "lifetime" subscription as defined in the original contract.

Someone who buys a 1 year contract and gets an upgrade to "Lifetime" by mistake may find themselves at the end of the merger with only the time remaining on the original 1 year contract. Correct?

Thank you for clarifying the legal part.

Please don't misunderstand me, your posting the bit about the posibility of BMW subscribers getting a better deal than was promissed on the car order is greatly appreciated.

I just spoke with someone from Sirius. They say that the ESN defines the type of subscription you get and that this may be an error on their part (they are still checking). The interesting part was that he said my ESN on my 07 335 was from a 2005 radio. If anyone who has gotten a lifetime sub is willing to give me their sirius login name I would appreciate it to use as leverage (he already said that they would NOT lose whatever was given to them).

I'm not sure what you mean by "upgrade?"

It is safe to say that if you have a lifetime subscription, then you can expect to continue to receive an equivalent service even if Sirius merges with another company (e.g. XM).

At www.Sirius.com, they are still selling lifetime subs for $499, so you are not going to screwed out of $499 next month if the merger takes place.

Of course if someone paid for a lifetime package, that the company would have to honor it. You have a lifetime contract from Sirius.

What I meant by "upgrade by mistake" was, if you paid for 1 year through BMW and then Sirius mistakenly gave you a lifetime package. What keeps them from simply correcting the mistake and restoring your subscription to the 1 year you paid for at a later date?

I guess my 330 is 05 production

For what BMW charges for the system, I don't think it's unreasonable for BMW to give a lifetime subscription or at least pay until the car goes out of warrantee (4 years)

Do you have a name to go with that. Like I say in a prior post, I was told something different. I have a 07 and was told that your subscription varies from 1 or 4 years depending what you paid for at the dealership

that's what the representative from Sirius told me yesterday when I call.

I was just on the BMW USA site and I noticed a couple of things:

The $595 Sirius option no longer says it includes a 1 year subscription. It says to consult your local dealer for more info.

The other thing is that when I ordered my 335i in June the HD Radio option price was $500. The BMW USA website now says HD Radio (effective 9/1/07) is priced at $350.

I spoke with Sirius again. The girl told me that it is up to the dealer. They can either lifetime or the 9mo. + 3 mo. free. I have yet to talk with my dealer but I know there are a couple salesmen/ dealers on this board. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

My lifetime subscription had nothing to do with the dealer - as far as I can tell. My CA said "I heard some people are getting lifetime" and sure enough, when I called in to activate they simply said it was lifetime. My dealer and I never discussed it, but I guess it's possible that the dealer did it and the CA didn't know it?

I can at least say that's not correct. I have a 2007 e92 with factory-installed Sirius, and my account says 9+3 months. (I do have a lifetime subscription on a second, pre-existing radio on the same account.)

I was hoping the change of the Sirius description on the BMW website meant that BMW was quietly phasing in a Lifetime subscription for it's factory option. Would have been a nice surprise for everyone.

The price drop for HD radio is a nice surprise, but since it's the least ordered option, not too many people are going to notice. I know when I ordered my car in June, my CA, at a very high volume dealer, said he only knew of only two customers who ordered it.

HD radio is stupid, why will someone whats to listen to commercials in HD ? is just another way that they were able to add more commercials by adding more channels.

I don't listen to terrestrial radio it sucks especially here in south FL for the price of the HD receiver I'm better of with a ipod or a lifetime subscription of Sirius

And don't forget, the "HD" in "HD Radio" doesn't stand for "High Definition" like they seem to imply at every turn; it stands (or stood*) for "Hybrid Digital". I haven't done any listening, but the whole system seems to be geared toward cramming more crap on the channel than increasing quality.

* according to Wikipedia, the "HD" officially doesn't stand for anything anymore. go figure.

Just called Sirius. They also confirmed that it's up to dealer how they set you up. So, I just have 1 year. My wife who took delivery at the performance center, also has 1 year free.

Thanks for the reminder. I've been hearing the implied "Hi Def" for so long, I for got it meant "Hybrid Digital"
