Race gas is no better than N2o

I'd like it if this convo stayed somewhat civilized... Today is pretty slow so I just felt like I needed to post up my feelings on the matter. I'm sure most people will disagree with me and thats fine

Now before you flip out and flame me please read: First off, I understand and appreciate race gas being used as a proof of concept: To figure out what the cars potential/limits are. But in my opinion when it comes to practical normal daily driving, running race gas at random times to bump your power is on the same level as running an N2o setup. Maybe it's just me, but I MUCH rather get the most out of running normal pump gas, rather than putting in higher octane or N2o to get a bump in power for shits and giggles/racing some random person.

I want my car to perform it's best using normal gas found everywhere. Is anyone else on the same page as me?

summary: I consider temporary race-gas mixtures the same as N2o in terms of a lame temporary power solution. I personally like my car to run as strong as possible on pump gas that you can find everywhere.

I feel the exact same JP. Never liked temporary power. Never have run race gas and at $4.00 a gallon for 91 oct in Socal, most likely never will. People running race gas daily is even more ridiculous in my book.

Don't think this thread is going to be pretty. lol.

If I'm reading your statement correctly, then what you're saying is a given.
Of course nitrous is going to give you more power than race gas.

jpsimon: +1. Are you planning to install a kit soon? Nitrous is alot of fun and very addicting.. It has come along way in the last 5 years. Systems can be bought with safety parameters as well.

Best Regards,

wait what? Astris understood!

I guess my post wasn't clear... I very much dislike N2o and I very much dislike temporary power with race gas mixes. I think they are on the same level of lame-temporary-power.

lol... I think he's trying to say race gas and nos are both on the same level and not practical for everyday use.

+1... Yes I understand and firmly agree with your point JP. Pump gas tune is hugely important as that is what most of us are running 99% of the time. I'd like to know that whatever tune I am running is optimized to perform on everyday gas (91 here). Race gas is kinda like NOS in the sense that you are feeling the extra performance for that tank/race, not an everyday driving situation...

To each is own. I think nitrous is a great power adder and very cost effective.

So what if i told you that my car has been running on 100oct for 1 year straight? Then my race gas is not temporary power, and filling ms109 would be some extra temp power for me...What if one day there was no 91oct anymore and the max you could buy was 87oct, would you still want to squeeze 380whp on your 335i with 87oct and blow your motor? 91oct is just not good enough for getting power out of a motor IMO... So i dont exactly agree with you on the race gas but i understand what you mean... I dont like N2o either but i think if you have a 1200hp supra and you are running a 200 shot to get it to 1400hp then its cool but if you have say a stock 335 and you put in a 150 shot just to win a race here and there then its just gay... Too many people watched fast and furious...

Most people don't run race gas 100% of the time. If you told me you ran race gace 100% of the time then a tune made for race gas makes sense... that normally isn't the case though. All I'm saying is that tunes that make the most power on pump gas are the stronger tune. Basically in my opinion... the strength of a tune should be measured/compared with pump gas you can find anywhere that most people use 100% of the time.

"I need NOS, I need NOS"

To OP,

No, its not practical using race gas everyday, I agree with you on that.

But NOS? cmon..

Methanol/Alcohol/Water Injection is available at least for other applications to serve that purpose.

Also, E85 conversion could save you alot of money than race gas also.

I agree, but some people want to extract the most power and have the fastest car, you are not going to acheive that on 91oct IMO... I dont want to be part of the 99% who run 91oct all the time, I guess i am part of the 1% that runs 100oct all the time, but im pretty sure i will beat any other 335 out there due to that gas if they are on 91oct... Along with some other cars out there...

Bdkevo: i agree with you too, if there was a good meth kit that worked perfectly with the 335 i would run water/meth with 91oct over 100oct straight all the time...

I've always looked as NOS as a drag racing, add on and while it can also add power at the drag strip, race gas shines on the road course imo. Agree that neither are for every day use.

i get where you're coming from. i felt the same way before. there are even people who only go n/a and think turbos and sc's are lame. they are not as temporary of a solution, but i guess those "purists" still feel its an easier route. after a while it gets ridiculous. after seeing crazy ass built cars spraying shots worth more hp than my modded 335 makes, i gotta give respect. now, to me this hobby is all about having fun and bringing everything you got, and if that includes n2o, alc., octane or whatever, then so be it.

btw, i don't spray, but i am that 1% that runs 100oct 24/7

Making the meth kit should not be hard at all.
There are already some awesome meth kits with fail safe that are not boost progressive but rather fine 'mist' such as aquamist.

Tuning is a different story.
I don't know how well a tuner could tune the meth.

With straight up meth and 93 octane, you should expect more power than 100oct.

Yeah the tuning part is a problem because no one can touch the fuel system and so it makes it hard to control AFR's with the meth, thats why i run the 100oct... Not the most cost effective solution but the safest for now IMO... Also you are lucky with that 93oct, the best you can get here in socal is 91oct...

Sleepy: Where do you fill up the 100?
