I agree that the numbers are too high. For a street car, the 335 wins hands down for the price. At the track, the results will be very close. Is the 335 "better" than the M3, no. But just wait until the M3 mods start coming out and we will have another good argument with a higher differential in price |

Here are the numbers like for like:
335i Sedan: Base MSRP $39,300 Alpine White $0 Black Dakota Leather $0 Dark Burl Walnut wood trim $0 Premium Package $2,650 Sport Package $1,800 Split-folding rear seats including ski bag $475 Destination & Handling: $825 Total MSRP as Built $45,050 M3 Sedan: Base MSRP $53,800 Alpine White $0 Black Novillo Leather $0 Sycamore Anthracite Wood Trim $0 Premium Package $2,000 Fold down rear seats $475 Moonroof $1,050 Destination & Handling: $825 Total MSRP as Built $58,150 So the difference between the two base prices is 14,500.00. The difference as delivered with approximately same options is 13,100.00. If we use leftcoastman's numbers of 1,500 + 4,000 + 2,500 + 1,392 = 9,392 for mods, there is a difference of 3,708 between the two cars. If you add brakes and better wheels/tires, you are at the same price. Which car is faster? It depends on the particular test. 0-30, I would vote the M3. 0-60, close call depending on each unique motor's variation in production. 0-120, I would vote for the 335i. 50-150, I would take the 335i. Road course (any), I would say the M3. I would be happy with either. Most of us bought the 335i at a time when the M3 was not an option and they weren't supposed to be here until 2009! Mod'ing made sense at the time, and still does for the majority of 335 owners who will not go to the extent of full mod, but maybe only a SSTT and some R compounds which will provide plenty of fun at the track for most. There will always be a faster car out there at a particular moment in time, and there will definately be a faster car some time in the future after you make your purchase. That is the fun of buying a new car and what makes our economy turn on items we really don't need to survive. |

The M3 is already ordered, week 29 build. Look at my sig for the details. Unfortunately probably not getting it until late Aug or Sept if things like the rims are back ordered.
Regarding the slushbox(335i), I love it for everyday use along with spirited highway driving. But I hate it for the track, car heats up far too fast to be any fun. Around here, that rules out almost half the year. Ideally, I want a real dedicated track car which I'm saving up for. Th M I'm sure will be more than enough fun 4-5 days a year until I get more serious.

Lol, yeah I think the car looks better with the CF also... I surveyed how often my wife and I even use the moonroof in 335i, figured almost never.

In order to compare apples to apples, the M3 needs to have the moonroof added to the cost because the 335i provides it as a no cost option. As for me, no moon roof for the sedan and unfortunately no carbon fiber roof is available.
