A Lovely Story
I've gone through this very reciently with my father, but I read this and thought well you get the picture http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-29951094
Superb gesture pulled of by people who generally care and the last paragraph really says it all |

Seen that and thought it was superb. Well done to all that made it happen. Good to see you posting again Steve.

I'm having a lot of contact with the NHS at the moment (more than I would ever want) but it is my experience that in general the people at the patient facing level are absolutely fantastic. I really don't know where my family would be without the NHS, we owe them so much.

This gave me a sense of deja vu.
An almost identical thing happened for my sister several years ago. She was in a local hospice and mentioned to the staff her love of horses. The next day MK police rode about 4 miles down to the hospice on two beautiful horses. They wheeled her out into the garden to meet the horses. Unbelievable! It's not often the police get praise, but they came up trumps that day. |

I can proudly say I've been involved many a thing like this - spent my career until recently working in hospices. I truly believe gestures like this are what makes a real difference at end of life.

My dad was a keen course fisherman and therefore as a tribute they had a match in his honor raised over £600 which will go to McMillian, we also chose to 'auction'all his fishing gear again donating all to those who made his last days as comfortable as possible. No need for the praise Steve - it's what I've chosen to do and love doing it. I no longer work in a hospice but am very much involved in caring for people at end of life as a Palliative care CNS. I also now educate others about end of life and the importance of treating these people as people and as individuals (that's what they are!)
I'm sure the money raised will be put to good use and hopefully help someone else. We only get one chance to get this right and those of you who have had to go through a loved one dying will recognise how important it is to get this last bit right. The little things sometimes matter the most. |
