ATTN people with rough idle, slow or jerky acceleration

Ok, there are many causes to these symptoms but I just wanted to add my $.02. I had all of the symptoms above in the title and it was caused by a broken PCV line. The car is normally supposed to detect leaks in the system, but sometimes it is still within parameters. A leaky PCV system can lead to a an air leak in the intake and cause the car to reduce power. It can also lead to rough idle. Just open up your oil filler cap with the engine running and the car will almost shut off and will not throw a code.

If you guys have tried injector cleaner, reprogramming, changing plugs etc and still have problems, have someone check the PCV lines. They are made of the absolute cheapest material you can get. After many heat cycles it just turns to flakes. Mine was spewing oil everywhere in the engine bay as well. It can also be very bad for your car as it will suck in moisture into your crank case.

I don't have a real pic because I have to remove the cabin air filter housing. Here's the exploded parts diagram.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...38&hg=11&fg=15

Item 3 was the culprit in my car. It connects to the valve cover all the way in the back close to the firewall. It's extreamly annoying to get to.

I've 164k and counting. And it is an extreme PITA to replace.

Nothing major so far. The oil pan gasket, rear main seal, oil filter housing gasket, and pressure power steering are all leaking. Not spewing, just leaking. I had a coil pack die on me not that long ago. At 90k the diff died and at 5k the water pump died. Those are the only major problems I've had.

my e92 is actually in service right now... and its been 2 days and no calls from SA stating what the issue is causing this. i believe benzo23 and i have been pretty active on the other thread that concerns the similar issue as this one.

i actually went to the dealership where my e92 is being serviced at and tried the engine start on 2 different (2008 and 2010) e92 328i... and surprisingly and disappointedly, they all did the same thing.

i can understand mine and the 2008 model having this issue with a broken or cracked part, but a new one shouldnt have done this. at that moment the SA had me convinced that its the character of our engine... but now im glad that i have something i can talk to the SA about and get him to check out on.

I remember mike-y broking a line while swapping his intake manifold... Could it be that line?

I plan on swapping my oil filter housing gasket when I flush my coolant in the next couple weeks.

Do you know when about it started leaking?

Not really my engine bay was extremely dirty for a long time. It was only after I cleaned it that I saw the marks from the leak. Just take a look, if it's not leaking, don't change it out just yet. Also, if your PCV lines aren't broken, don't replace them prematurely. There is a lot of potential to break fragile things back there.
