How to perform Coolant Service?

My 06 325i at 71k miles.

My dealer quoted $165 to drain and refill (is it different from flush?) coolant. The coolant is only $25, so I am hoping to do it myself.

I searched and didn't find any detail steps/DIY guide for E90 N52 engine. Does anyone know?

Thanks

You are not searching hard enough. I believe member eninty has a very good DIY on the topic. Check DIY and maintenance sections

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Thanks, you guys are quick. One more question.

Since I live on the surface of the sun (AZ), so I think the 50/50 rule is less optimal here. Should I do 60 water, 40 coolant or vice versa?

I plan to get coolant from Bavauto.com and the silver color gallon that they sell doesn't say it's already mixed or not. Anyone know? part # 82 14 1 467 704

The BMW stuff is NOT premixed. You could definitely get away with 60/40 water/coolant if you don't plan on going to anywhere cold in the winter.

Make sure you mix with distilled water (can be found in the 1 gal jugs at the grocery store for cheap) and not tap water.

You have to premix that stuff with distilled water. There is no vice versa, it's:
Tropical region – 4:6 (coolant:water)

did this today. super easy, except the car is so low. I didn't like the feeling under it. The most time consuming part is removing all the screws.

yes, there are like 10 or so of item all over the place. the rest was super easy, just use a quarter to remove the radiator plug and bleed screw. I took out almost 2 gallons, even w/o lowering the car or remove any other hoses as listed in the DIY.

The original fluid is more like green. what I got from the dealer is light blue. After knowing how easy(and cheap) it was. I regretted for not doing it at 50k mark.

OK, I have a cordless screwdriver that made removing the screws a breeze, but I can see how if you did it by hand it would take forever. I will definitely be doing this at 50k.
